Water in Fuel
Hi,
We have a 2005 F350 Super Duty dully. For the past six months or so, the water in fuel light has been coming on. We were told by the dealer that it is because we are in the "hurricane" area and that there has been a lot of this going on. I would believe this except it happened to us in PA. as well.
My question is - any of you that have a Ford been experiencing this problem?
My dh drains the water (only gets about 1 tsp).
The dealership has been absolutly no help except to get in our wallet!$!
Janice

I think it time for a new dealer.
I really don't think they have the answers for alot of the questions
and are to Lazy to call the Ford Help Line.
No my has never came on but my TBL fault came on my message center and it took Three trips to the Dealer and Six days total time to get it fixed.

Hi Ron,
We are keeping our fingers crossed. We drove from Alabama to New Iberia, LA a few days ago without the water in fuel light coming on. Next week we are headed for Quartzsite, AZ. I will believe what the dealer told us if and only if the warning doesn't come on again! If it does, then I'm getting in touch with Ford directly.
Sorry to sound dumb but what is the TBL fault? I know when you answer I'll be saying to myself "boy am I dumb"

Funny thing happened to me on the way back home fro Dallas. My water in fuel light came on and coincidentaly, I hit 60K on the speedometer. I looked in the owner's manual and it had a fuel filter replacement at 60K. Well, I crawled under the truck, released some fuel in a can( and all over me), then the light went off for about 20 miles. I took it in to have the filters changed for $139.00 at the dealer in Shreveport, and he said that the light was a coincidence at 60k miles. His explanation was a crock. He says that a lot of fuel is coming off of the Gulf Coast, and is a problem after the hurricanes. He also said that many delivery systems have bad fuel in them, and they are seeing a lot of fuel filter problems. I'm not buying that. Then right after that story, he hands me a brochure stating that Ford has know recommended replacement at intervals of 15K for the 6.0 liter engine. When I asked why the change, he says that the tolerances are much smaller for water in this engine. Any other thoughts?

caddojay,
I had to smile (sorry) when I read your post. I really hate that someone else is having a similar problem.
Since our last trip to the dealer, knock on wood, we have had no problems. We are also being careful where we are purchasing fuel. Being on the Alabama coast, we have heard this "hurricane" story till we are sick!
I still think that the sensor is over sensitive, but try to convience the dealer of that!
We had our filter changed at 15K and again at 17K. Sure hope this doesn't become a habit as it's not cheap!
My dh is just going to drop the water whenever the light comes on or once a week if we are in a humid climate.
Good luck in the future.

Water in fuel
I have an '04 6.0 350 with about 112000 miles--I have changed the fuel filters only 3 times and never had the light come on. I always fuel at Flying J or at Loves, if available, but also at smaller stations with good prices.
You shouldn't be having the problems you describe--have them change the frame mount filter/housing completely, that should stop the light problems.
As to the "hurricane" fuel problems--thats bull.

Sounds like yall have some pretty bad dealers they like your money. The filers are easy to change and filters should cost around $40.00 bucks. When dealing with diesel keep your tanks full and add condition once a month. I carry about 80 gals. I have an 2005 and a 2006 F250 never had a fuel light come on.

We are keeping our fingers crossed -- since our expensive trip to the dealer the water in fuel light has NOT come on
We also have been very careful where we are purchasing fuel.
My dh puts conditioner in about every third fill-up. Hopefully our problem is resolved.
At least I have it documented with Ford that we were having the problem, so if it does rear it's ugly head again, I'll go direct to Ford with it.
We appreciate all the responses.
Safe Travels,
Janice

I had a 97 F350 with the 7.3 liter PSD. I never had the water light come on other than the start up function sequence. I only fueled at a truck stops (including going into Mexico) because I knew they "turn" the fuel very rapidly and take some extensive steps to keep it clean and "dry".

I'm fed up!! I am continuing to have the water in fuel light come on, go off, come on...etc. What fuel additive is anybody using. Is it something that will disperse the water throught the system?

Don't know where you are in Texas.. But the Prestige Ford in Garland Tx is quite good. They also have a forum for Ford PSD. You might go there and check it out..

fuel
I was told by a my ford dealer to put fuel additive in with every fill, it drys up the water in the fuel and quiets the engine as well as reduces the smoke from the exhaust.
