Fresh water tank drain

I've been doing a lot of stuff under my fifth wheel. The fresh water drain hose looked bad so I'll change it-no bigge.

But, the fitting that screws into the bottom of the tank was loose. I put some Teflon on the threads, screwed it in but it doesn't seem tight. I did buy a new fitting.

Is Teflon the right product to use in the situation? Is there a better way.
