Just bought a new 2500 Chevy Diesal short box

I am retired and going to be a full time RV'r and have never done it before. I have just bought a Chevy 2500 Diesal truck 4 wheel drive and have ordered a Cameo 37 Ft 5'r which will come in August. I was told that the truck would have no problem handeling the 5'r but now am not so sure after reading all that everyone has to say on the forum. Would appreciate any imput as this will be my new home for quite a long while.

Depends on what your referring to when you say handle it. Power wise, no issues, weight wise, maybe?? Something will be the limit to the amount of weight the truck can handle, axle, brakes, tires?? Do you know the loaded pin weight of the trailer? Using that number, add it to the ready to roll truck weight, that includes people, hitch, full fuel and all the other stuff you plan on carrying. See how those numbers play out and then we can see if the truck is able to do the job you have intended for it.

I'm just going to wager that you may not have enough truck. Being that the trailer is a 37 foot I suspect that it will be to heavy when loaded for full timing for a 2500.

Is the 2500 a new one? What does the label on the door post list as Gross Axle Weights? What is the Tow Rating on the truck? What does your truck weigh ready to tow?

Looking at the Trailer Life 2011 tow guide, assuming you have a 2500 CC standard bed, AND a diesel: Max trailer wt = 16,700, so you are ok there.

The weight on the rear axle is where you are probably going to be way over with the probably 3000lb+ pin weight of the new trailer.

Being done all the time, you just need to be aware of your situation.
