Mike,

I installed a hard wired unit from CW. Works good and nothing to leave behind or walk away. Does a good job verifying the power parimeters before connecting, trips and resets itself if they fall outside specs.

We often just use a 12" 50-30 amp Marinco adapter and a 30 amp cord when 50 amp isn't avail, or we don't need 50. Haveing a portable surge protector will mean more adaptors or having to drag out the monster cord each time.

I think both units offer the same protection.

Cheers,
Bill

I went with a portable and have it in a compartment to keep it from walking away. worked out close to the installed price (not so hot at installing stuff). seems to be doing its job
