I recently bought a 2005 Open Road 340 RBHS-5 and was wondering what, if any, mods people have made to their Open Roads. I was thinking of flipping the basement door under the bedroom slide to open down out of the way.

Happy Camping,

Steve

I have a 340 BHS as well. Not a bad idea, I was thinking of putting a few pistons instead. I will have to put a list of thing I did and then post them. I have a few ideas as well, just have not done them yet.

Both are great ideas!! That would really help when accessing the basement storage. Now hubby will have something to do this weekend, lol. Looking forward to seeing what changes others have made.

 Well the dealer has to replace my storage door, so they are going to flip it for me. Works for me, thats just one less thing I will have to do...

After our trip this weekend, we get to replace the basement door  .....yep it was up when the bedroom slide was going out and BOOM! It stayed shut on the trip home and hopefully the new door will be in before Memorial weekend.

Called Pilgrim and ordered the new door. A huge thank you to Terry Hayes, he could not have been more helpful!! BTW if this happens to any of you, the door is $79.20 excluding shipping. I am still trying to determine if we can "flip" the door, Shirley at Pilgrim stated the weep holes may be a problem - some of the doors cannot be flipped (those attached at the side versus the top or bottom) but I will post the answer once I find out. Hopefully we won't destroy the 5ver this weekend camping, lol!!

We flipped the basement door and it works great! No problem with the weep holes or opening the bedroom slide, not sure why Pilgrim didn't flip it to begin with.

Caught mine under the br slide on departure on the first trip
Had it fliped at Fun Time during the repair.

I noticed that one 06 that I saw had it fliped and another 06 had the struts.
Both are good ideas, however, the struts sometimes loose their holding power. And with the flip there is less machinery.

Hey Gary,

Are you and Judy back from North Carolina?

Joe

On our 03 I turned the pretty piece of aluminum across the back into a storage compartment, with a nice pretty aluminum door with a combination lock.It turned out to be roughly44"X 38" X 10" great nook for my wood blocks, stabilizer tripod, outdoor carpet and a few other things. :p
