I am condsidering moving from a 32' Rockwood 8293RKSS (6500 Lb dry) to a 10000 Lb, 34'ish, 5th wheel.

I have a 2018 Ram 2500 Laramie, with 6.4L gas, 3.73 axle, 20" rims. I've run through a couple of 5th wheel calculators and the math works out. It says i can tow this.

Question: for those of you that have done the same or similar; do you think that i will be pleased, towing the 5th wheel?

Since a 5th Wheel is the only RV we've ever had I can only speak to that. Although we are full timers (5yrs-6mon). We have looked at every thing out there and to us a 5th wheel provides more room. Knowing we were going to live in the rig I wanted as much room as I could get. DRV 44 Houston; 24,000 lbs; Ford F-450 11/2 ton Dually. 5th Wheels take a little more time and effort to set up and take down so stopping for the night and then moving on gets old, however we're retired so we're no longer in a hurry...

As far as towing a 5th wheel there is no comparison vs a bumper pull. Far more stable on the road, no trailer sway, easier to back in. Just grab a few traffic cones or something and practice in a local parking lot and you will be amazed how much easier to back in vs a bumper pull. The only thing is my unit is a wide body (100”) and my power extend mirrors work but I would like a bit more reach. I think your ram mirrors may go a little further. My 2 cents, go for it.

I expect that your 2018 will handle the 10000 lb load. You will love the way a 5th wheel trailer handles. My concern is if you will be satisfied with the power. A 3/4 ton diesel will pull much better, a 1 ton diesel would be the best. Enjoy your new venture!

I have a similar setup. I have a 2019 Ram 2500 Tradesman with the 6.4 gasser and a 35’ Arctic Wolf 5th wheel. The dry weight is about 8600 lbs. I have pulled from Ohio to Montana/Colorado twice plus many other trips of lesser distance. In my opinion you will be fine. With the additional costs of a diesel truck over gas, the additional costs of fuel and maintenance just to get to the top of the hill faster isn’t worth it. I have gotten 9-10.5 mpg and considering the weight I’m pulling that’s decent. Having good trailer brakes is very important.
I also had a pull behind trailer before the 5th wheel and definitely the 5th wheel is easier to pull and maneuver.

I have a 2016 Ram 3500 dually pulling a 2014 Solitude 305RE. For safety and paece of mind
I beleive you should have more truck than you need, not just enough truck.Exhaust brake and tow haul mode feature makes a world of difference. 6.7 Cummins pulls 16000 lbs. with no effort. Downhill exhaust braking is amazing. Long bed with daul wheels makes the rig more stable in wind and when passing big rigs. Long bed gives you the capability to turn 90 degrees.
