Fulltiming parks

We've been fulltiming for just over a year now & move about every 3-4 mos. Sometimes it's difficult to find an RV park that gives a monthly discount. Since there are so many others that have been on the road alot longer than we have, thought I would start a thread to list some of the spots we've stayed at so far. Maybe you can even help us find some new spots. We have 2 RV Park books & they don't always give us the information we need.

We have been on the road for 2 1/2 years and other than sitting for our winter months, we move about every 2 weeks. For us sitting for 3 months was very hard. We wanted to get back on the road to see things. We always ask about monthly rates, but find that areas that are more touristy, either don't want you there for a reduced rate, they would rather have the in and outs for making more money, or the rates are really high. Thanks for posting the parks you have been in. I think you will find quite a few with the monthly rates as you travel. Have fun and see the country.

RV Park

We have been on the road since June 2000. We have three membership TTN/Werster Horizon/ROD with about 250 camping resorts in 27 states and a lot of them we can live in all year prices $200 to 1000 a month. We have not done that yet. We stay 3 weeks and move on to next. We have stayes in about 25 states and travel thru 15 more in 6 years on the road.
Escappees has a lot of camp resorts which you can live all season, there price 200 and up per month.

When you stay in these parks for long periods, do they charge you for your electric usage? Some places in snowbird country have metered electric for long-term stays.

Yes if you stay over a week. We talk to some new friends who stayed in Casa Grande,Az. for $200 a month and elect was for them $100 a month they have a heat pump washer and dryer 2 ref. and more elect use but 100 is not bad for that use.

I'm not a fulltimer yet, but plan to be soon. I have asked at many of the parks that we go to in Texas, and all make you pay for your own electricity if you pay the monthly rate. These parks have daily and weekly rates that include the electricity, but monthly rates do not include electricity.

We stayed at one of the Wilder Resorts in the RGV in February. They charge for electric if you stay more than a month. I think the current charge is about 12.5 cents per killowatt hour.

It does seem to be the norm then to be charged when you stay more than a month when staying in snowbird country for the winter.

The electric charges vary a lot. Low for us has be 9 cents per, and high has been 15 cents per. Also, depending on the climate your in, the electric usage can vary, we have spend as low as 75 dollars and as much as 140 dollars.

Guess once we start fulltiming, we'll become a little more vigilant about our electric usage. No more going out and not worrying about which lights are on because we're not paying for the electric.

We've been doing the full time thing for ten years and weekly & monthly rates are quite common. Many parks charge seperately for electric, but some don't. Either way you will pay. The good thing about it being seperate is that you have some control. If it's included it will be charged at the rate needed for those of us who use a lot.

RV Park

We have 3 membership resorts with 250 parks around the country.
This has saved us a lot of money, about 1400 nights in 6 1/2 years with no nightly cost.
Our yearly cost of membership is $500 x 6 1/2= $3250= by 1400=$2.10
Original cost $14,000 x1400 nights=$10 Total cost $12.10 a night.
Add a few nights while traving between membership CG's with a higher cost per night and the rest of the time volunteering for for site with full hookups. This is how we have lived for going on 7 years on the road

I have been fulltiming for 7 years with dh while he works and we stay at most places for atleast 4 months and then move on to the next. We travel state to state as well. we have come across lots of parks that don't offer monthly rates but there are more that do offer. If you have trouble you can always go to a mobile home park. We have done that several times. Good luck!

Sunset King in DeFuniak Springs , FL is a great place to stay. With membership the cost is $150 a month plus electric and really high speed internet access. Very close to Destin FL Serve meals in their club house and have various activities all week long. http://sunsetking.com/index.php

It's kind of hard to answer specifically as the rates depend a lot on where you are. We stay in Texas at a resort where the monthy rate is $320 for a large site and electricity is metered, figure on about $100 for a fairly high usage. We normally only stay there for a month however.

What about mitigating electricity usage?

I am researching to go fulltiming in 2009. Settled on the rig I want. Have started looking into adding solar panels. This would help to offset the electrical usage when staying for a couple of months in any location. Has anyone else tried this?

Solar

We have had solar pannels (2) of 200 watts for 7 years on our 5er's with 4 batteries and now only two. Worked very well for our first 6 years traveling USA with the 4 batteries, ran our 27in. tv and wifes sewing machine till 10 or 11 pm most nights.
Newer pannels have higher watts than when we got ours in 2000, but the more watts you get then more batteries you will need.
You will need an inverter also, our's is 2000 watts, more than needed but at the time that was the lowest which also charged the batteries.

I'm very surprised to here that. Although we normally don't stay any one place for a month (except in the winter), I've never heard of an RV park that didn't give a discount for a monthly stay.

Are you saying that the parks you stay in that don't give a monthly discount charge the daily rate times 30 (or 31)?

RV Resort in Michgian

A really great RV Park in South Haven, Michigan is Sunny Brook RV Resort. www.sunnybrookrvresort.com It's only an hour and a half from Chicago and Elkhart. It is an ownership park, but they do have seasonals, etc. A great location near Lake Michigan.
