Bed length
We are looking at 5th wheels and that brings up the next subject, something to pull it with. I have read the posts on brand, size but didn't see anything about bed length. It goes without saying a 8 ft bed will work no problem but how about the 6.5 bed, does it allow enough clearance?
Thanks in advance.

Whether or not you can have enough cab clearance with a short bed will depend on the pin box extension length and whether or not the fiver nose is angled to clear.
An auto-slider hitch would work to eliminate chance of contact. Also, where the hitch is located in the bed is a factor--ahead of the axle will be a problem, behind it will help clearance, but add to leverage of pin weight on truck.

There is not definitive answer to your question. Every setup is different most trailers have different configurations.
Drivers can adapt to their configuration through cautious practice and varied situational maneuvers.
Even experienced haulers can screw-up sometimes.
I witnessed an experienced hauler just the other month who was moving a trailer for a friend, nominal fee. He had a lapse in judgement and out popped the cab rear window, dent, and $600 gouge / full body paint repair in the trailer front cap. ouch!
BTW: the general preferred pin placement for hauling is about 1>" forward of the drive axle center. Never behind except backing w/ a slider. Could cause adverse steering reactions.
Every additional 1" forward transfers an approx. % of pin weight to the steering axle. This would allow for modest handling and road character adjustments.

Buy the fifth wheel first then get the truck to match. That way if you’re looking at trailers at dealerships you can say “whatever it takes” when the salesman asks what your tow vehicle is.
It’s also fun to watch their reaction to the question when you point to your convertible and say it’s right there. Of course I am a sarcastic old SOB.

That's the route we are taking. I didn't want to go out and buy a DRW when a 2500 or SRW 3500 would work. It's looking like the coaches we like are leading us down the DRW road, making my bed length question a non issue.

My research took the better part of a year, of course I am going full time. Narrowed the field to Luxe, New Horizon and DRV. Settled on DRV then began looking at used units. The wife could not fathom living in someone else’s E-Coli so we ordered a new DRV 39DBRS3. Waiting for delivery now.

Hi all,
Newbie here and getting our 5vr on the 24th.
We have an F250 6.9ft bed and will be using the Reese Titan 16k Slider. Cost installed with the jack box mount was $2k.
Just info if needed.
Cheers,
Dave

Jack box
Its the addition of the trailer harness plug in box to the bed versus the bumper. Thanks. Gonna weigh it all this week.
