Registering a 5th Wheel out-of-state

Greetings,

I am a Nevada resident who is considering buying a 5th wheel in Oregon to be delivered to a nearby RV park in Oregon. I am trying to figure out how to get it registered. From the Oregon DMV, it seems that you cannot register an RV in OR as an out-of-state resident. In Nevada, it seems that you need to physically bring the RV to a Nevada DMV office for its initial registration. (something that would be difficult to do since we don't own a truck that can tow it) Has anyone encountered a similar problem? found a solution?

Thanks!

Karl

If you are renting a semi-permanent spot in Oregon, can't you use the address as a second home and register the trailer there with that address?

If you never plan to tow it why register it? It will never be in Nevada you’re not a resident of Oregon. I seriously doubt Oregon cops are cruising the RV park looking for your tag…..even though it is Oregon.

We've bought a trailer from a dealer in Idaho and the ealer handled the paperwork and collected the fees for us living in Montana. we also bought a trailer in Florida from an individual, did the paperwork together for buying the trailer at a ban, and the seller took care of temporary Florida tags for getting home to Montana, then we registered it once we got home to Montana.

Most dealers are accustomed to selling to buyers from other states. Ask the dealer, if you're using one.

Another option is to set up an LLC in a tax-friendly state and make that the "residence" of the trailer. Read more here: https://www.49dollarmontanaregisteredagent.com/

Oregon bars out-of-state residents from registering RVs specifically. One could register a car in this circumstance, but not an RV. I am leaning toward OneReallyOldGuy's suggestion to not register it at all as long as that is consistent with the bylaws of our co-op. Thanks for the responses!

We haven't lived or been in Oregon since late 2017, but when we were there, we physically had to tow the fifth wheel to the tag agency (or maybe it was their DMV) and have it "inspected" to be tagged. If it is still that way, then the dealer from whom you are buying may not be able to just "leave" it at an RV park and it get registered.

You might would have to make arrangements with the RV dealer to meet you at a DMV office or tag agency to allow you to register before they park the RV at the RV park.
