Fiberglass Roof

Looking for feedback on the fiberglass roof option. I know it’s a feature of the Elite Suites, but recently saw that option ordered on a Mobile Suites.

Pros and cons?

I opted for it on my 2017 36 RSSB3. I’ve never had a rubber roof and wouldn’t want one. My personal choice, please don’t start with negative comments. The FB roof adds about $3000 to the price and about 300 pounds to the weight. It is sturdy, durable, can be waxed for protection, and looks as good as the sides. Tree branches may scratch it, but it won’t tear like the rubber. Again, my choice.

Was a $2000 option on my 2019 MS order (built 03/201, was told it added about 200-250 pounds.

The availability of a fiberglass roof was key in ordering a MS over other brands, as well as being able to semi custom order.

As Terry mentioned above tree branches will for the most part just bounce off and scuff the paint a little. Compared to the same branches catching the rubber roof and ruining your day.

And if it is the model years with the 3/8" plywood sub structure, the fiberglass roof would take care of the radius side panels popping up through the membrane.

You will probably see the same answer with several items.

Washer/dryer (combo or separates)
3 A/C's
Fiberglass roof
Dual pane windows
Slide toppers
etc etc etc.

For the most part, those that have the options consider them essential items.
Those don't have them consider them a waste of money.

At the time 1/2015 Alicia suggested not going with the FG roof. I agree FG is more durable to branches but beyond that I have never had a rubber roof issue.

Sounds like they have improved them since 2015.

I would most likely not have gone with the the FG roof when it was a two piece part.

Other then that, most of the negatives of the one piece FG are based on false assumptions.

Just a couple of questions
1) is the fiberglass roof any louder in the rain
2) What would be the difference if any when mounting additional equipment ie satellite dish or solar

It is quieter then our previous heartland toyhauler, but I’ve never been in DRV with a rubber roof in heavy rain to compare.

I actually think mounting stuff is easier since you don’t have to worry about screws grabbing the membrane and buggering it all up.

I always pre drill the proper size and then countersink to keep the screw threads from cracking the gel coat.
