New Ford mileage

I have a question for all of you that have 2007 ford diesels or newer. What kind of mileage are you getting with the new DPF system?

That's kind of like asking how far is up.

Try adding some specifics like towing (there are different loads and terrain consideration) or bob tail? Speed is a major factor in mileage, you push the go pedal farther and the fuel use goes up. Everyone also drives differently.

The key to the question is "DPF system". Those who have it will know how far up is.

Larry,

Since I haven't actually driven my F450 that far (about 1000 miles, all locally), I haven't actually checked the mileage by dividing miles by gallons. However, the on-board computer display has reported me as to getting 11.5 to 12.5 miles per gallon.

However, that is only the truck with no trailer behind.

I don't know if any of this helps you. Mine is the Ford F450 King Ranch with the 6.4L.

I kept good records

I keep track of every mile and every gallon. As of my last tank I am at 9.734 miles per gallon. This number is all in.. sole and towing for 43,000 miles plus. Hope this helps. P.S. the 2011 Super Duty is supposed to get better milage than the past model years.

Thanks for the info. I just took my first trip to a local lake for a couple of days. About 90 miles. I got 7.6 MPG both ways. I have a new engine, about 2oo miles on it, I hope the mileage gets better as it breaks in. I got from 10 to 14 on my 05 F350 depending on wind direction and hill factor. So I kind of went into shock with this outcome. I also have a 488 rear end so I know that is also a factor.

Okie,

I have an '09 F450--it gets 12.0-13.2 solo; it also gets about 7.0-8-5 while towing at 27000+ GCVW and never struggles except for gear selection on long, steep grades.
I also just came to Houston from Fort Worth yesterday bumped up against the 82mph limiter--got about 12.0 staying with the autobahn traffic.
I am happy with the truck--do I wish for better mileage, yes. Do I wish for a 2011 with the 'better mileage'? Sure do. Do I wish to win the lottery--yes...None of which are gonna happen.

By the way----a new engine? What happened?

Joe

I just got the truck a couple of weeks ago from the ford dealer. It was a repo and the factory had to replace the engine. I also found out on my test trip last week that the brake actuator had been disconnected, I assume by the previous owner. Imagin my surprise as I was driving down I35 and seeing brake smoke coming off the road just ahead of me coming up on some construction work. The tow/haul fuction on these trucks are a real saver. It stopped me with no problem. I highly recommend a short test trip on all new trucks.
