Brakes and assc parts

Just ran into an issue with our DRV that because of the model year is pre 2012, there are no brake rotors available for my unit. Along with that is DRV now has a "program" of axle replacement. I needed rotors, calipers and bearings but there are none to be found in N. America. This drove the search to DRV which indicated that there was a change in the axles.

Makes for an extremely expensive brake job!!

That’s the pits to have to replace trailer axles due to a lack of what should be common repair parts. What brand of axles are they?

I honestly don't know. After doing some searching here on this forum, I see I am not the only one in this boat. Its a common issue, more so than I'd like to see. Oh well, its done and on the road to being repaired at my dealer. They've stepped up quite a bit and it should be fixed in the next couple weeks. That's fine with me as I'm not using again until June.

OK, had a look at the site and found it was the "Independent suspension" repairs. Don't think I'm going down that road yet.

For the money you will spend making what you have work the extra for this suspension is well worth it!

If you have bad bearings they are still available from a bearing shop. Then turn the rotors if they can be.

Contact Jessy at Kodiak he can give you suggestions and most likely the bearing spec.

I had a brake pad go bad and it tore up the rotor. The machine ship was able to turn it and NAPA gave me new pads on warranty. The pads looked like they had chucks of metal in them, sure glad I caught this. The other three looked fine.

I've been carrying around a extra complete hub and was going to use it until I saw that they sent me 5/8" studs instead of 9/16" that I needed. Even though its been a couple of years Barry at Kodiak sent me a set of 9/16" studs on warranty. Now I have a usable spare.

Dump the HAPA pads as they are Made In Mexico. I have gone to EBC Yellow #DP41240R.

The EBC puts the NAPA to shame for quality and braking performance.

Bought mine on Summit or AMAZON, whatever was less expensive.

I also suggest using Permatex Silicone Ceramic caliper lube #80653 on slide bolt grommets and all mating surfaces.

I have a 2009 MS 32TK3 and it has Kodiac Disk Brakes and 8K Axles. Didn't know they had drum brakes on these? Not sure if you change them to Disk Brakes is that a possibility?

If I said drum brakes I made a mistake. They are disk brakes.

Dodgeman, here is one site with a small explanation. Their price is a little high.

This is what I found to be the BEST products for the Kodiak 8k axles. I went to Oil Bath with TRUE Oil bath seals. EBC brakes below put all others to shame. Braking is much better even compared to the NAPA Semi Metallic I used to promote.

The "O" rings they provide are SH!T. These are TOP quality and don't rip or leak. The Caliper lube is aWESOME. Be sure to check the caliper slide bolt grommets, mine and others I know were shot around the 2016 model era. Bad batch?????

Sounds like another Thor problem handed to DRV

Thanks for that little bit of info. My Oct 2015 MS has a caliper slide bolt problem noted by uneven wear of brake pad. I'm hope to make the next 1400 miles with out hitting metal to metal.

NO, it's a KODIAK problem, they supply the parts.

Your problem is caused by deterioration of the caliper slide grommets. I had two that looked as they should and two that caused the damage pictured above on two rotors.

Contact KODIAK to get replacements to have on hand before you tear into it.

Guess what was going to do today, order some parts but there on-line store is closed. Kodiak Trailer is moving locations. The online store will be unavailable until further notice. Thanks for your patience.
I will try the phone ordering later today, but the can the Guide Bolts be lubed one at a time, while everything else remains in place. I know that would be temporary fix but would get down road in case I can't get my parts in customary time.
