Inverted 5th Wheel

Many years ago I owned a 1978 Holiday Rambler with a factory installed INVERTED 5TH WHEEL (hitch on trailer; pin in bed). It was great; the strength and hook-up ease of a 5th wheel, but the convenience and clear bed of a retractable gooseneck.

I'm just wondering why you don't see any of these anymore. I use my truck for so much more than pulling; but I've developed some health issues that make it very difficult to install and remove my hitch assembly by myself, and the inverted setup would be the perfect.

I've spent hours on the internet researching the topic, and it seems that only heavy-duty haulers like hay trailers and oilfield trailers use this setup. Any other old-timers remember these, or have any suggestions on retrofit without major mods to the pin box? Do any trailer manufacturers still offer these from the factory?

Never seen one. All the oilfield stuff I have worked around also had the pin on the trailer/hitch on tow vehicle. Only difference I can see is that you would have to back under the trailer, lower it on pin then pull forward to lock? As compared to backing into the pin on a trailer?
And, welcome to the forum.

I have only seen them on livestock trailers and not too many. Don't know what issues they had or why you don't see them any more? Saw 1 on craigs list on a farm implement trailer. I see that e-trailer sold them one time not now thou. Holland Binkley Inverted Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Single Pivot. looked at price on another website wow 675.00

I have a trailer set up that way and a ball on a plate that fits into my 5th wheel hitch frame rails. I don't like moving that trailer much, its a pain to get it lined up and locked.
