Cool Soft Spot in LR

I recently noticed and raised area and separate soft spot near the living room heater register in our 2015 MS RESB3.

Any ideas on the best way to investigate? I'm leaning towards removing skin and looking from underneath. Any experiences and lessons learned would be appreciated!

Thanks, Mike

Well, there are only two ways to visually inspect, pull up the carpet, or look from under the coach. I would opt with the under look first. I have cut many holes into the bottom for various repairs over the years. I would use a razor knife and cut a 3 sided flap, keeping the uncut side towards the front of the rig. Make it as large as you need to be able to fit inside, I made mine about 2.5ft x 2.5 ft. When I was done with working up under the trailer, I used wood 3 pieces cut 2.5 ft long, about 2 inches wide to use as a screw in ledge to screw the flap back up to. Put 1 inch screwed into the uncut panel, over lap the opening and screw the cut flap into the wood. Then used a high quality duct tape to tape up the seams. Sealed up tight and no water intrusion. Good luck and let us know what you find

Hard to tell, could be a water leak that got the floor soft, could be a support structure across the floor broke loose and is pushing upwards on the floor. If it is soft, and squishy or bouncy that means the floor is not secured to the substructure I would think. Until you/someone gets under there and looks, hard to give a defined answer. If structure broke loose, reweld back to where it needs to be. Flooring wet/rotten, pull carpet, cut out bad wood, install new and if done carefully, reinstall and stretch old carpet. Or install new carpet at that time. Either way, I would not let it go as it can't get better by itself.

Good ideas, Stacey.
rouxguy,
It will be an entertaining and enlightening exercise to get into the underbelly of your trailer. Lot of room in places to work around. Expect to be sitting on the ground and looking up and around after making the cut as Stacey described. You should be able to see the area of concern.

Not so sure you will see anything from underneath!

The floors in a DRV are plywood. They usually do not delaminate like wafer board does when it gets wet. And as cummins picture shows, the floor is a sandwich with plywood being the bread and the ductwork and insulation being the filling. Maybe much easier to lift the floor covering.
