Lipert jack noise

Just want to say I just added a quart of the Cat hydraulic oil additive and it completely cured all popping and snapping noises. Follow lipert instructions.

Common problem, common solution. Not sure why it isn't put in at the factory, or change to an ATF that has a better formulation.

I knew of the Cat oil, but I've forgotten the exact name for it. Can anyone help me by providing that name, please?

When I had the trailer at Lippert for pump noise and jack issues they replaced the pump. I asked about the anti stiction additives and they told me at Lippert it is pre-mixed in the fluid they use.

So, new pump, two new jacks, two jacks moved, new fluid. Still makes noise on occasion.

Our first trip in our rig I noticed the hydraulic slide acting sluggish. I checked the oil level with jacks up and slides in. The reservoir was not quite 1/2 full. I picked up a small hand pump and a couple of quarts of full synthetic ATF. I removed the remaining fluid and filled with the synthetic ATF. Never had any popping like I did in my last rig.

If y’all don’t want to go that route you can get Anti Stiction additive on Amazon.

It's referred to as Caterpillar anti stiction fluid. Many brands out there, one probably as good as the next.

To be clear it takes much more than a "couple" quarts to fill the reservoir.

Where I’m from “couple” means more than “1”. I don’t remember how many I bought, but it was more than 1 or 2.

Understood!

Sucking mine dry with slides in jacks up if I remember correctly it took 5-6 quarts.

CAT fluid. Never had a problem since, even fully extended in the cold.

What is painfully obvious in this thread and thousands of others - don’t go to the stealers!!!!

I appreciate the OP’s dilemma as the last time we went to a dealer, 4 mnths later a call to pick up our RV got us excited for the road. Nothing had been done. Uugghhh. Never again.

Hydraulics are not complicated. Any good shops in your area for big equipment? Like a CAT dealer, Hyundai, whomever or a Princess Auto? They would have someone who actually knows the tech to fix it or walk you through the steps in a way your comfortable with. Maybe.

Really hope you can get it sorted and get back to enjoying life.

I still had one pesky Jack making a snapping noise occasionally. So I removed a quart of fluid and saved it in case I need to add some and added another quart of the cat fluid. That completely resolved all noises. With four slide outs that a hydraulic and the levelers I would say 2 quarts are definitely needed.

Lippert has replaced most of our system and they have now given up without curing the problem and 4 years of trying to do so. Paid over $4000 to have system installed in 2 year old trailer.

Yeah. Manufacturers in general are jerks. I just ignore them and the time they want to waste with our equipment. Easier just to fix things.

I do give them a A for effort as they sent Lippert service reps to AZ twice and MN twice but turned to an F when they gave up. Popping etc made trailer jerk as pressure was lost. When we where gone during Covid AZ park it was in called and said trailer was about to tip over. We had to send local repair guy to re-level for $100.
