Roof caulking

Now that the weather has cooled down in TX, I’m going to be heading to the roof to touch up the caulking and put Dicor’s roof conditioner on.

I know that recaulking requires me to remove the old caulk first. If I’m just touching up, can I just add new caulk on or around the old?

Also Where the front and rear caps attach I’m considering covering the seams with 5” Eternabond tape, but only if it would stand up to riding down the highway. Does anyone have experience using eternabond tape on the roof?

John, the answer to your question is yes, you can use the right material directly over the existing, and the Eternabond will hold up to the wind. The VERY most important aspect is clean, clean, clean. No off-the-wall solvents promising to be the very best. Your choice of spray cleaners, 409 comes to mind. Dollar store has a 'Purple Power' cheap stuff that people swear by. A small scrub brush, a squirt bottle, rinse twice with clean water, let it sit until it is bone dry and you're ready to go.

Yes, cleanliness is the way to succeed with Eternabond. And, yes, when you painstakingly follow the instructions on the Eternabond website, it will outlast your trailer. Had it on both top end seams on my 2005 for many years, still there when we traded it for the '15.

Many times over the years I've cleaned the area with Eternabond Eternaclean spray cleaner and applied Dicor Self-leveling lap sealant over the existing caulking.

I just cleaned the roof and inspected. It all looks good, no repairs this year.

I also installed Eternabond 6" white sealant tape on both cap seems back in 2015. It's seen about 18,000 miles since and is still doing its job.
