dodge 4500

Got this from the Dodge corporate office. Dodge diesel 4500 RAM is coming out with a regular pickup bed in July or August 2008. We been waiting for that!!
For long time ..... could only get a Dodge 4500 with a flat bed.

Just curious, what is the tow rating and what are they selling for? Does it still have a small Cummins in it or is it some other brand / model?

My DH knows the towing rating I will have to ask him. I don't have the information in front of me.
The rear end and axel is more than the 3500 and maybe more than the 4500. Has 19.5 inch tires, dually of course. We took it in the Rocky Mountains and it handled our 5th wheel just fine. Also has the exhause brake. It is geared different. We have the automatic and also heavy duty tranny. Can't remember the size of Cummins engine but I believe it is same size as a 3500. Came with air ride suspension so it doesn't ride rough.
The demo we bought was at a much lower cost. Had 4500 miles on it and they had to sell it before it reached 5. Got the Laramie Cab. If you are interested I can give you a name of a man that deals in all different brands of demo's. If you send me a message. We bought it from a Dodge dealer in Colorado because the truck still belonged to Dodge corp.
I will have husband get me the information on the tow ratings and etc and I can post them.
Also these don't come with a bed. This one had a bed already installed. Some people put a flat bed, towing bed or pickup bed. The place in Indiana did the bed work.

Hi,

Nope not interested in getting one, I have a capable tow vehicle right now. I was just curious since it took Dodge so long to start the catch up game with Chevy and Ford. I was wondering if they started with something new or just beefed up what they had in the 3500. If it's the same Cummins as in the 3500 they made adjustments to it for the greater tow rating then.

My current vehicle has a Cummins in it too but it's a bit different than the ones in the PU.

DW & I bought an 08 Dodge 5500 in Phoenix, AZ this past Feb. It has the hauler Elite Bed made by Utility Body Werks in Elkhart, IN. We just returned home from a trip to Alaska, which took us 4 months and 12,500 miles to complete. The CTD is 305 HP and we have a 4:88 rear end with the 6 speed automatic and a Kelderman Air Ride suspension. The truck was great, handled excellent on the rough dirt roads but our MS 5th Wheel trailer suffered some damage from the vibrations. We pulled a variety of grades from 6% to 9% and the truck handled our 16,300 lb trailer just fine, and the exhaust brake made the long downhill grades much easier on the brakes.
