Rear Wall/End Cap Failure

We have a '16 40 KSSB4 and we started noticing screws falling out of the cap trim that covers the rear end cap to sidewall joint on both sides. Could not keep screws in, either fell out or stripped out. RV service shop here in the RGV diagnosed it correctly. The end wall was broken loose. Pulled the rear cap and found that the end wall was attached to the sidewalls with 14 #6 screws and ALL were broken except one. Literally the only thing holding the end wall in place was friction.
I spoke to 4 other RV repair places and they were fully aware of the structural failure either of design or construction. DRV denied any responsibility as the structural warranty is only for 3 years.
Anyone out there with the same issue? Would you be interested in joining a class action with DRV?

It's VERY common!

There is a very good thread on the Thor Forum DRV section by RYNOSBACK where he details how to secure the rear cap along with adding backing behind the screws.

I had same problem with a 2012. Same with factory denied any problem.
Service manager ( Greg) lied to me and I will never have another DRV as long as he is in charge.
I went with a Luxe.

No issue like we that so far with my 2019. I think things like class action law suits are the way to go. I threatened Heartland with one over issues I had with my 2010 Bighorn. I got the required repairs covered. The most expensive trailer I have ever bought, and one of the worst for workmanship.

No matter what some say, it's NOT very common. You only hear about the problems. No one ever starts a thread "I've never had a rear cap failure" Some people have had a problem.

The ONLY one who wins in a class action is the lawyer. He will get $1000 and you get 50 cents. Try and find one willing to take on a class action for about anything dealing with a few hundred units. Threaten DRV with one. They will laugh at you, close the door and never talk to you again. Just ask the want to be lawyers on here how successful that is.

I was in Indiana. Went on a trip from Canada. Spent time in Yuma etc then traveling eventually ending up in Indiana. I was told before leaving Canada that all repairs are done by a company close to the factory. After completing most of my repairs I was informed they couldn't fix my front cap problem, only the factory could. Front end was separating from frame. I was told they would cover the repair but I would have to make an appointment. I explained I was from Canada and it would cost me 3,000 there and back in fuel. He basically said to bad. I brought up the severe problems there units were having and maybe a class action law suit should be looked into. He went into an office and came out shortly after asking me if could bring it in in two hrs. Repairs were done in 3 days. I had to stay in a motel..
Believe me. The were NOT LAUGHING when I mentioned a class action lawsuit!

No matter what some say, it's not very common. But two more did pop up this week on the facebunk groups, not including the OP.

No matter what some say - the facts are the same, the frame ends, the walls and the floor decking all end at the same location and the rear cap is hung aft of that frame end.

The DRV frame is fairly stout, front to rear. The truss crossmembers do little to stiffen it up side to side compared to the typical Lippert I beam frame.

There are 3 DRV youtube videos posted in the past month or so (2 prominent DRV u-tubers) that paint quite a picture of the amount of frame flex in these trailers.

Mine is 2011 haven't had this problem. Is this more a Thor built DRV than a Doubletree built DRV?

No. It's more of a "some people have had this problem" So then "every one has this problem" We've had 6 DRVs so far, travel 20,000+ miles almost every year and never had this problem. The people with the problem tend to be loud. Don't blame them at all.
But it's a long way from "every single one and it's a design flaw"

#7 will be delivered in May at rvs4less in Tenn. We couldn't be happier.

Usually 3-4 years and sadly first 3 only had minor problems and when Dan was there had excellent service.

Then got the 2012 and he left. 2 years later the problem appeared and good ole Greg in the end told by me I was out of warranty.

By the way Pork Chop am not being loud about this but I do think new to DRV need to be aware of what can happen at the factory Hind sight I probably should have taken it to a dealer. I used 2 of them and they were great

I think you're missing my point here. By all means be loud if you have a problem. Shout it from the roof top!! BUT just because you have had a problem don't say that "EVERYONE" has a problem. We had a neighbor this winter with a 2.4 million $ Newell bus. He had a 2 page fix it list and left yesterday for Miami, OK for repairs. Does that mean all Newells have that many problems?

When it is the same problems over and over again it’s a concern. Floors rotting, windows leaking, sinks falling down, frames cracking etc and the list goes on. That’s all I’m saying. Threatening Heartland as I did got my problems fixed in 3 days.

I never said all had a problem.
I also know every unit sold will have some problems of some sort.
My luxe had a 42 item list, but was corrected.
My complaint is how I was treated by the factory
And folks should be aware this could happen to them

YEP, working with Ed AKA Mr NO was a real treat.

Knowing what I know now I would have had Rolling Retreats take care of my warranty work.

Stick a video camera (Hero, dash cam etc) on the rear corners facing the cap - quite an eye opening display of the Flexible Flyer.
