Question 3rd A/C add-on

We have a 2019 MS 41RKSB4. It is pre-wired for the third a/c unit. Wondering if anyone has added the third a/c and has it worked? Worth the money? Do you have to shut down two a/cs to run washer/dryer or dish washer?

Thanks, y'all!

Pre wired for 3?Mine was but all 43 and larger are. No problems running things but mine also came with an energy management system to shunt things on and off so that breakers won't trip. Highly recommend this if you add the third one. I have heard that some dealers order their stock rigs with 3 so I know it is done. Just doubt it is a factory standard to prewire. Good luck. I really don't think it would be too hard to do.

Hi, Bill. It does already have an EMS installed. Dealer said that all I need is to install 3rd unit. Having never had an EMS before, I wasn’t sure how they work. I talked with an owner of a 2018 Winnebago Grand Tour MH that had 3 units and he said he couldn’t run all 3 at once. The front ac seems to be dedicated to the bedroom. Going to try closing down bedroom vents this weekend to see if more air will go to main cabin. At 68 deg setting, bedroom stays cool, main cabin struggles at 75 degs. That’s with bedroom vents full open.

We have three from factory (2019).
The EMS only shuts down circuits when on 30 or 20 amp service.

On gen or 50 amp service the system ‘assumes’ you have full power available.

Nothing shuts down. Two AC’s on one line, 3rd on the other line.

Assuming a 30 amp draw from two AC’s running still leaves 20 amps on that line.

Last year over the July 4th week in Gettysburg the temps were 95-100 all week.

Trailer stayed at the low 70’s and the AC units cycled.
Well worth the option.

And we use the electric for the water heater, also have washer, dryer and dishwasher.

We also have the Magnum hybrid inverter.
So if there was a shortage of current available the inverter will kick in and supplement the line.
It is possible that we may have exceeded available power for a moment or two and not known about it.

3rd ac

Thanks, porthole. The trailer came pre-wired as factory option. I’m a little concerned as to how our system works compared to what you just said. We can’t run 2 acs, electric water heater and run microwave. Pops breaker at pole every time. Settled with running water heater on propane. The park we are at does have electricity problems, maybe bad juice from pole.

Rough numbers
Two AC’s 25-30 amps
Water heater 10-12 amps
Micro 10-15 amps

That would appear to be almost good enough until you factor in the battery charger converter or inverter.
That could add another 8-12 amps and you are over 50 amps. .

One thing you could check is to see how your panel is balanced. Eg what loads are on what line.

If you have the Surge Guard EMS the menu will allow you to see what voltage and current you are using on each line.

And you could have poor park power.

3rd ac

Thanks, I’ll check it out. Does the EMS just handle loads on ac units?

We run 3 AC's all the time with nothing having to be turned off. Our washer and dryer are 240V and both can be ran without issue.

On the 6500 LP Commercial cummins gen we have to be selective.

Would never be without 3 AC's.

Thanks Alicia!!!!!!!

Water heater and AC’s

Only 2 of the AC’s and it starts by shedding compressor then fans.

Well, howdy wingnut60! We must be neighbors. We’re at Texoma Shores on Texoma this weekend. Another MS next door. That you, by chance?

If power management is a problem and breakers get “popped”, then would soft start capacitors be beneficial?

They certainly could be, But which ones do you buy?

The $10 or $250 version?

Typically you get what you pay for. Researching and asking in different groups will gain you a lot of varied opinions. The choice isn’t often easy but I often but in the midrange of cost or if I run across a product that is repeated revommended.

There is not a power management problem running 3 a/c units. No breaker tripping on 50 amp service. Soft start caps not required. Save your money. If you're running off a generator different answer. You are subject to the limits of what you have in that case.
