Honda Generators

In looking at the catalog(Honda) 2 2000 would be less weight than a 3000. Is this a practicle option?

Jim,

Absatively and posalutely!! That would be easier to handle as it is lilkely that you would only need one at a time in the winter months. I ran my Excel last winter with just one and had everything except the AC on it. I don't have a washer and dryer in this rig but the next one will have one. I'll hook up the 2 together for that situation.

How much gasoline do you carry with you? I have been told they will run about 8 hours or so on a full tank, but I don't know if that was underload the whole time.

Stripit,

I have 2 2.5 gallon gas "cans" (they're plastic now a days) that I use for gas. I leave them empty until I am in a dry camping situation. I averaged over 5 to 6 hours before I got too antsy and went out and filled the tank up. It holds .9 gallon from what the book says. I use the special auto throttle setting so it only revs up to meet the demand instead of running full throttle all the time. I don't like to let it run dry as I usually have my computer on and hate it when it gets shut down unintentionaly. I dry camp in the winter when I won't need the AC to cool off.

A buddy of mine uses one 2.5 gallon can and a 5 gallon can. He fills the gen only from the smaller can. He also fills when the gen is running but that scares the bejeebees outa me and I won't do that. Something about immolation just turns me off.

When I'm through dry camping I use the gas in my motorcycle to burn it up. I try not to carry any in the cans if I can help it. It goes "sour" too darn fast. Conversely if I need the gen in a hurry I'll pump some gas out of the bike for the gen while I later go to the station and fill a can. (or the bike again)

I'm not sure on just how long your generator actually runs on that .9 gallon of fuel, is that 5 to 6 hours on the .9,or 5 to 6 on 1 21/2 gallon can?

I've occasionally used my Honda 2000 for power outages in home emergencies. In winter, however, with storage in the garage, it's very hard to start. Any useful tips for starting in cold weather?

Move to where it's warm! FOTFLOL! Seriously Honda carbs are very touchy. When you use it drain the carb completely after you shut it down. I've found that this makes them much easier to start. As an alternative put fuel stabalizer in your fuel when you run it and make sure it's in the carb before you shut it down.

Run it once or twice a month and it will start MUCH easer. Also be sure you pull the starter rope all the way to the stop when starting.

I agree that owning 2 EU2000i's is a better choice than owning 1 EU3000i.

When we evacuated New Orleans for Katrina I took my 2 EU2000i's with me to the house In Kentwood LA that we were allowed to use as the owner was out of town with a dyeing grandson.

Power was out their for over 3 weeks after the hurricane hit and 1 EU2000i
running on econo mode powered a full size refrigerator/freezer, a 19 TV, a jam box, several lamps and a half dozen or so portable fans. I could go nearly 8 hours on a tank of gas.

Since gas was extremely difficult to find within 100 miles of where we were staying and hitting nearly $3.00 a gallon when you could find it I ended up loaning my extra genny to a relative up the street of the owner of the house we were staying at to replace his gas hog of a genny he had been using.

Honda generators are equipped with a revolutionary sound absorption system, so operating noise is low than other generators, because of low fume it keeps house and environment comfortable.
