Tire clearance problem

We have a 2019 41RKSB4. The second tire on driver’s side has a missing section of tread, all the way around. I took the trailer to a trie shop for tire replacement this morning. The tire shop texted me a picture of the problem-there are two bolt ends with nuts hanging down very close to the tread surface. From the photo, you can see how the nots and bolt ends have been polished off from contact with the tire. Anyone else have this problem? If so, what was your solution? The large bolt is an adjustment bolt for the slide. It hangs about 3/4” from the side wall. There is no apparent contact there. I’m wondering if 2” risers would solve this problem?

Have they looked for a suspension problem. There should be way more clearance for the suspension to travel. What type of suspension is installed?

Yes, 2" risers would help but I think there is another problem.

It has MorRyde independent suspension. This is the only tire with a clearance issue. The tire tech said he didn’t see anything wrong that he could tell.

The MorRyde IS installed on my trailer has two sets of holes to set the ride height. If yours is the same maybe it is on the lower ride height set and it would be easy to change. I think it changes by about 1.5 inches.

Zoom in on this picture and you can see the two sets of holes. Circled in light color.

I would be looking for rubber "SHEER SPRING" damage on that assembly.

Yep , I agree with Cummins . bet you had a rubber spring fail . they have a 5 year warranty and are fairly easy to change.

As said above, you probably have a rubber spring at that point that has sheared in two. Should have way more clearance than that. If this is the case, check the other 3 springs for cracks. Even if you have the lower bolt holes to move to--this would not solve what is probably the problem.

I agree with the sheared/delaminated rubber spring. Above comments were based on "The tire tech said he didn’t see anything wrong that he could tell."

I have had two springs fail with the third spring starting to tear. It does happen and I believe they had a bad batch in 2015. MorRyde has a measurement formula to see if your springs are sized correctly. They do have different sizes available.

With 18k setting on my 8k axles you would think I would have spring issues. NOPE they look great, my DRV is one of the first 16's made. When at MORryde to have the 3" risers installed they checked my spring offset and said they were all well within spec. I could have gone to 9k springs while there but they said honestly no reason to do so.

When talking to MORryde about your damaged spring I would hit them up for a new tire also.

Thanks, anijet, I see the holes. Mine are in the top hole. I put a call in to DRV and got voicemail. I sent them an email from the warranty link on their website, never heard anything. Is the spring the vertical slab of rubber? Do I need to remove the wheel to inspect? Looks like they are enclosed behind metal supports.

Yes, the spring is the "slab of rubber". You can view the springs by parking on a hard surface and using a creeper. See the spring from the rear of the assembly. You could do the deflection measurement while you are down there as described in the manual.

You would get more help from Morryde than from DRV, I would say.

Called MorRyde, very helpful. Sent me the info to raise the suspension 1”, as well as how to inspect for damage. Also asked me to send pics and he would see if they could diagnose. Thanks to y’all for your input. helped me get direction.

Rubber Spring

spring.jpg

This is what the rubber spring looks like.
Takes less than a hour to change each one , that is if you can handle a wrench

Have you ever done it yourself? It took two of us most of the day to replace the first one. Getting the new spring lined up with the holes is the hardest part. I had a professional garage do the second one and they took over two hours.

Thanks for the pic. That is what I was seeing. Good to have the visual verification. I’m planning on tackling the job of moving the suspension down to the lower holes on Monday. I’ll inspect the springs then.

Are the suspension units heavy? Is it practical for a one-man job?
