Entry door dead bolt

I have been having difficulty unlocking our dead bolt. Seems to be sticking or something, I have lubed everything, and it only seems to help just a little. Does anyone have any ideas?? or must I try to get replacement of the whole door latch thing??

Hi Ron,

Had similar problems. Tightened all the latch and handle bolts/nuts and everything worked fine after that.

You may want to check it out to see if all bolts/nuts are tight.

Same here, we actually got locked inside and DH had to crawl out the emergency window to open from the outside. The screws on the plate were loose and the door lock is affected. Check them every few months.

Examine the striker plate to make sure it is located in the correct place.

You may have to tap the opening into the correct place with a hammer and small block of wood....

I checked the screws and they were slightly loose. Removed them and put some lock tight on them and snuggled them up, even the three inside the cover. All is well at least for now. Thanks to all!!!
