Truck electrical connector

What is the advantage to installing a connector in the bed near the 5th wheel hitch? My truck is factory equipped with a connector on the rear, works fine. Is the only advantage not having a cable over the tailgate?

Thanks

Power Cord

I think it is a personl thing.
Or lenght of cord and where it is connected to the trailer.
Mine is connected in side the pin box and comes out the back opening.
Truck connedtion is on the back slope of the duel wheel bed cover.
Which is very close to the where the cord hangs down from pin box.

The main reason for the connector inside the truck bed is to keep the cord from getting caught and pulled out. It hangs down closer to the center turning point of the hitch if it's inside. When you have it over the tailgate and you make sharp turns the cord could possibly catch the side of the truck and pull apart.

The way you have it may work fine for you, this is JMHO.

Cheers,
Bill
