DT Warranty & Insurance

I have looked through everthing I have for warranty info. My dealer says it is just one year, does anyone know what piece of paper shows how long the warranty is? Also, after 2DAWDS lost his beloved MS, I am rethinking my insurance. We do not have total replacement insurance. If anyone out there loves their insurnace company and has total replacement, please let me know who you have. Thanks in a bunch! :P

2007 Warranty

2007: DoubleTree RV, LLC warrants the product(s) that it manufactures for one (1) year from the date of original purchase or the date first placed in service, whichever occurs first. DoubleTree RV LLC offers additional warranty coverage on certain parts and components, up to three (3) years. The specific coverage list for these extended warranty items are as follows:

Warranted for two (2) years: Appliances (Direct), Satellite, Generator, Transfer Switch, Holding Tanks, and Water Pump.

Warranted for three (3) years: Air Conditioner (parts only), Hydraulics, Roof Mat, Pin Box, Windows (Except Glass), Axles, Frame, Brakes (Other than Pads), Roof, Floor, Bearings, Springs, Structure, Walls, Trailair, Equaflex, Front and Rear Caps, Dometic Appliances, and Wheel Structure.

For some reason, the factory sent us a 2007 copy. I also have the 2006 warranty, which is for 24 months of normal use. But applicance warranties are warranted directly by respective manufacturer. Both years are NOT transferable.

Wow, not a good sign that they decide to cut the warrantee period in half. Even though almost all of the major problems with our unit were in the first year, we aren't out of the woods yet with it. We have until the begining of August remaining and I'm not looking forward to that date at all.

Newmar use to offer a 3 year warranty but dropped theirs to 1 year as well. One year seems to be the industry standard but it sure was nice when DT offered the 2 year warranty to set themselves apart a little.

I'm insured with Progressive and have total replacement coverage. I usually insure everything with USAA but they would not cover my HDT since they only have it in their database as a commercial vehicle and weren't willing to change it even though my truck is registered as a motorhome. Progressive was willing to cover the truck but required I insure the trailer with them as well in order to show my intent not to use the truck for commercial purposes.

I'm paying for "fulltimer" coverage because the trailer is kept in a campground and I use it whenever I pass through VA. It didn't matter to Progressive that I only use the trailer occasionally. They were more concerned that if it should burn down it could potentially take out the trailers, motorhomes, etc around me. My truck premium is lower than what I was previously paying on my 1 ton. Trailer insurance is higher so it all balances out in the end.

BTW...I could never bring myself to use the word "love" when talking about any insurance company.

Re: 2007 Warranty

Whoaaaa!! I thought I had covered all the bases for my pending purchase of a Mobile Suites but I must confess I have not addressed or confirmed present warranty policy. Thank you for asking this very important question. I was expecting a 2-year warranty same as in previous years. Never assume anything. This forum has once again proved to be a tremendous resource for research and information.

I was actually prepared to place my order today but I need to follow up on this enlightenment. Unfortunately that will no doubt eliminate any possibility of getting a 2007 model and we will have to begin again with the 2008 offerings. I hope the trend to reduce warranty coverage does not continue into that model year.

I am curious about the statement:
Quote:
2007: DoubleTree RV, LLC warrants the product(s) that it manufactures for one (1) year from the date of original purchase or the date first placed in service, whichever occurs first.
In what instance would a product be placed into service before the date of original purchase?

Also with:
Quote:
DoubleTree RV LLC offers additional warranty coverage on certain parts and components, up to three (3) years......
Does this mean Doubletree actually warrants those parts and components for the 3-year period? Or does it mean this coverage is offered in the same sense options are "offered" at extra cost?

My plan involves changing out the axles to Mor/Ryde IS axles and that company has a 5-year warranty on their work and product.

From what I have learned about these products a two year warranty is a minimum requirement in my book and provides a comfort zone that I can live with. I am aware of owners who are reaching the end of their 2-year warranty and are still trying to get issues resolved that were noted at delivery.

Doubletree has claimed to have improved their quality issues of the past with 100% in-house PDI inspections and other QA measures. Most companies that profess to offer better quality will back this up with longer warranty periods - not shorter. This is disturbing.

On Edit I didn't mean to hijack the original question about insurance. The company we deal with here offers replacement insurance but it is probably only pertinent to Canadian residents.

Warranty

If it makes anyone feel better, we have had minor problems with our Select. Most problems like loose fittings were repaired by DH. It has been a wonderful 5th wheel and is far superior and problem free compaired to my 2003 Jayco 5th wheel with a 2 year warranty. I would buy it all over again knowing it only has a one year warranty.

It looks like the major stuff is warrantied for 2-3 years where previously it was only warrantied for 2 years. Looks like a better warranty now. I understood the appliances were only warrantied for 1 year in previous years....so that has improved.

I wouldn't let the reduction to a 1 year warranty bother me if I really wanted a DT product. Our 2 year warranty expires this October and we have yet to have the trailer to a dealership or the factory for any service. Every issue has been easily resolved by me in my driveway.

Personally, I would rather have a trailer with a 1 year warranty that never needs service than a trailer with a 2 year warranty that spends most of those 2 years in the shop. It's a huge hassle taking a trailer in for service.

Buy a trailer with a good track record regardless of warranty length. There are a few in that category and Mobile Suites is one of them.

Like Gunship Guy, we have insurance with Progressive--went through RVAmerica. We had trouble getting insured on our F550 also, so RV insurance was our best choice. We have the total replacement and some of the other things were best about Progressive. We had Explorer RV and it was similar and had our VW beetle insured with them, but they went up about 25% for this next year. They said it was because their auto policy was bought out by another company, but it made me mad, so I switched for all of it. Now we have three seperate policies, the RV for the truck and trailer, one for the car and one for the motorcycle. What a pain! Everytime the premiums go up, I change. I don't understand what makes them go up when we don't ever have any claims!

I might have jumped the gun on this one with my earlier post. I could be a tad nervous this close to closing a deal and then discovering something I let get by me. For the most part I have been very meticulous about this purchase. Those that know me would call this an understatement.

I spoke to a Doubletree representative this morning and it was explained to me the warranty policy was modified at the request of customers. Most wanted a longer warranty on big ticket items and were willing to accept a shortened warranty period on little things like cabinet hinges, etc. As pointed out here, many sub-systems with potential for expensive repairs have had their warranty extended. That is a good thing. The actual warranty policy is being sent to me for review.

I suspect this is a good thing for the factory too since the longer warranty for systems will be the responsibility of the manufacturers of those products.

With a chance to let that sink in I have to agree that this makes sense.

This topic has also given me cause to reveiw the necessity of buying an extended warranty from a 3rd party vendor. I usually don't get involved with extended warranties but it may be prudent to take on this added assurance for this purchase.

I will definitely insure the trailer for replacement value with a substantial liablity protection. Click here for a discussion of RV insurance. Highly regarded by many is Miller RV Insurance.

Sorry if I raised a fuss. Mobile Suites remains my product of choice and that is reinforced everywhere I turn no matter how hard I try to test my resolve.

FWIW after having to deal with Dometic directly for warranty issues on the AC 2 years in a row, I learned that Dometic already warranty their AC / heat pumps for 3 years from date of purchase of the rig they are installed in. Other appliances also have a warranty period of their own. Look at the documentation that comes with the rig to see what has what length warranty.

As far as insurance is concerned, we deal with a broker, Farm and City Ins. 800-331-1520. Trese is the RV specialist. She understands about RVing including fulltiming and even HDT's / MDT's. She has always been very friendly and easy to talk to. We're very happy with their service and the cost of our tow vehicle and trailer combined is just a touch more than what I paid for a 1 ton PU alone when we had a stick house.

Insurance

A lot of people I've talked to like Exployer Insurance. First called them I got a very nice agent that came up with a great price for replacement insurance. They even add sales tax you have paid to the price. Then I called Miller also liked by many. After 20 minutes on the phone with the agent she told me she put in Idaho instead of Missouri and would have to redo the whole quote and call me back. She also wanted my SS number. I am still waiting for her call back. I'll try Farm and City today, thanks!

Hate to bring this up again but I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the 2005 model year warranty reads. Mostly interested in the above highlighted items, the 3 year stuff, was that the same for 2005?
Thanks
