It depends on the manufacture of the hitch.

With my hitch it is mounted fore and aft, not side to side, when the installer mounted my hitch there was a dent in the box of the truck, and he attempted to striaghten it out, but didn't quite do it. So when he finsihed up one side of the rails is pinched and it is hard to remove the hitch. Unless I use a 4 X 4 and a sledge hammer!

So if I was to leave it hooked to the 5er it would be quite the project, that and I would need 3 men and a baby to help me hang it on the pin!

All I do is take the hitch out of the truck, and place it on 2 X4's sitting on the floor of my garage.
