Not sure I could help with the "flame-out" circumstance, especially without seeing how you created your current "fix." However, does you fridge really need to be on "5" to maintain 33 degrees? We are here in the the heat of Oklahoma (record broken this year for number of days over 100) and need to stay close to "5" ourselves. Prior to it heating up, our refrigerator maintained 34 while setting on "3".
