During our full-time traveling years, we traveled almost exclusively with another retired Navy couple we had known for many years, Don & Betty Doole.

After wintering in Fl, we headed north. Betty is from Peoria; IL and we were going to spend a couple of weeks in the early springtime there before going on out trip across country. Our plans were to go north to the Michigan, UP and travel west on US-2. We traveled a lot of US highways because we were not time or reservation travelers. On our way to Peoria, we traveled most of the state north on US-51, all the way to I-74.

At Peoria, Betty knew of a Mobile Home Park that had nice sized RV spaces. Its name is Mt. Hawley Mobile Home & RV Park. It had nice FHU (50 AMP) sites well off the highway. Being a Mobile Home Park, each site had mail delivery. They also have a game room next to the laundry room. The area golf courses had opened and were lush green. Don & I played a lot of golf while the girls shopped and visited Betty’s family. After our two weeks stay, we headed north. We would winter in CA.
