Welcome to the fifth wheel world Dean, I believe 6" is the standard or "norm". We have about that on our '15 38 RSSA hooked to our '15 RAM with a B & W hitch.
Some are comfortable with a bit less but I like to have at least 5" and 6" is even better in MY book.
