Mike,
For some time, when putting out the door slide, there was always a loud pop, which came from the upper front corner. There is a plastic 'guide' piece that was hanging up on the trailer frame. I am making an assumption this resistance to starting movement might have contributed to roller failure. I would spray silicone on the plastic and make it better for awhile, but it always came back. Or, maybe just wear and tear of lots of in/out use.
At any rate, the slide when reaching near the end of travel going out, began making a racheting noise, but still went all the way. Finally, after getting home from 2 months travel (lots of slide use) the slide stopped as shown in the pics.
What is the problem, is the bronze bushings in the mounting flanges has worn to the point of non-existing--gone completely on one side of each roller. Dave (rverdlm) walked me thru the repair process and I jumped in on fixing it since there are very few moving parts. When the bushings are gone, there is a lot of play in the slide movement--when the slide is far enough out, the teeth on the rack no longer mesh with the pinion gear on the roller assembly--thus the racheting noise as the teeth jump and finally movement stops.

Summing it up--I did not consider the racheting noise a problem until the slide quit moving. Had I not gotten home, would have been a REAL BIG DEAL to get it fixed.

Any other question you have, will try to help.

Joe
