Our son has a sound bar that he uses in his family room. It puts out great sound. I like the idea of something outside a cabinet rather than inside taking up valuable space. His woofer is wired, because it's a few years old, But they also have wireless versions.

As for upgrading the DVD to a BluRay player, drill a hole from the small cabinet on the left to the middle cabinet and move it over. David did this to add the DirecTV HD DVR and a new BlueRay sits on top of it. He then drilled a hole down to allow the HDMI cables to drop down and attach to the TV. We never even open up the left cabinet anymore.

I also found an expandable wire shelf at BB&By that sits on top of the stack and gives us better storage across the whole cabinet. There are many options for shelves @Amazon.

I think in the new 2014's, the huge Sony receiver has been put into the middle cabinet. At least, that's where I've seen them when we toured a couple.
