If: Your washer is not turned on but attempts to operate upon start-up of your generator I'm going to hazard a guess you are getting some feed to the electronics of your washer via the grounding circuit and would suggest trying a chassis ground wire be attached to the genny (there may be a lug provided for this) and then to the chassis of the washer to see if this changes the situation.
Boy these toys just don't ever quit presenting you with little challenges do they?
