It looks like our compartment width is about 33 inches, and that leaves us with about 1/2 inch or so on each side. When one gets close to the width of the compartment, then one needs to realize that the door would have to "stick out" a bit so the doors would open correctly. Depending on the model one has, that "sticking out" could interfere with the island/counter.
