I think the bronze bushing is a wear bushing, designed to wear instead of spring-to-bolt wear. Grease should definitely prolong the bushing life.

When mine were checked/replaced last season, they put the plastic bushings in--I expect to install new wet bolt kit before next season for the AK trip.
