There should be a circuit breaker for the AC on your electrical panel that you can shut off. However, the thermostat is most likely the culprit. They fail fairly regularly. Easy to replace.

I went from a 2001 to a 2013 DRW. Dosen't seem any wider after you drive it for a while. The major difference is the sound. Much quieter, but I still miss the engine noise.

Dometic makes an LP GasChecker that works very well. As you move it down the tank, you push it in to activate. Red no gas, green gas. The level is repeatable and accurate, and it is very reliable.
