Looking to upgrade/replace my water pump. I've done a search and found nothing. Does anyone have a recommendation for an upgraded pump?

Clev, I put this unit in the neighbors older Montana a year ago. I thought it was a little high, but they were happy. It was what had been recommended to them by who knows what. It sure was quiet, I'll say that.

Thank you, Nathan. Yes, that’s a pretty expensive pump.

I installed this one last year. Plumbing and bolt pattern are either very close or the same (can't remember). Works fine and has a little more pressure than the original.

Yes they were. I think I reused the old filter housing for a reason I can't recall for sure. I think I didn't want to mess with changing the factory crimped on hose fitting that connects to the strainer. The pump fittings are the same but I think the inlet to the strainer was different. Using the original strainer was the quickest at the time.

I received the Seaflo 42 series pump today and my wife will install it tomorrow. While we are into this, I would like to sanitize the fresh water tank. How is that accomplished? I know how to drain the tank, but how do I get sanitizing material into it?

1 3/4 to 2 cups of bleach for the 100 gallon tank.

Method 1
Pour the bleach into the hose, hook up water, fill tank.

Method 2
I use a sump pump in a 5 gallon bucket, water and bleach and pump into the fresh water drain tube using a slip on Sharkbite fitting.and appropriate adapters for the pump.

Once above is done run cold water faucets till you can smell the bleach then lit sit 8-10 hours then flush.

Thank you, port. I knew the mixture, but was not sure how to get it into the tank.

We use a small plastic funnel I purchased at Auto-Zone or any auto parts place. Make sure you're using real 6% sodium hypochlorite, not the cheap dollar store trash. The strength will be on the label, in small print. If you only can buy the 3% then you'll need twice as much. Clorox is the real thing. Unscented, of course. It smells bad enough already.

Thank you, Nat; but where do you use the funnel?

I have wondered the same thing.

And another thing. Where are you guys draining the clorox solution from the tank? Clorox will kill my lawn, and also my septic tank if I drain it there.

The small amount you will use will not cause an issue.

When i remove the old pump, I think that I will use 1/2" fittings and hoses and connect the output to the fresh water tank output, making it an input for the tank. Adapt a fitting and hose to the input side of the pump and insert the other end in a 5 gallon bucket of clorox mixture as suggested by port. Activate the pump, and pump the 5 gallons into the fresh tank. Problem solved.

Right at the female fitting where your fresh water supply hose attaches. All you're going to pour in with the funnel is the bleach. As soon as the bleach is in then fill with water.
Clev, 2 cups of bleach in 100 gallons of water on your lawn or down the street will harm nothing.

A good idea was listed earlier; pour Clorox into the water hose, connect it to the RV or faucet, whichever end is loose, put selector switch on City Fill, and turn on the water which will push the water, with Clorox, into the tank. I would recommend removing filter cartridges first.

Thanks that makes sense I didn't read thoroughly.

Is it a FACT the water that goes into the fresh tank get's filtered first?

Yes, the water comes in through the panel, through the filter (I have 3), out of the last filter, to return to the panel. Then the panel selector switch allows you to choose 'Normal' (tank) to use your tank water, 'City Fixtures' to use water hose hook up, or 'City Fill' to fill your tank. Regardless of what you select, the water will have passed through the filters first. I'm going to bypass all of that and adapt to the output of the tank for input of Clorox and fill water.

I have only one filter. I will probably sanitize next time I change my charcoal filter. Simply sanitize without the new filter in place.

West Coast water is really good. Same anode last 5 years.

Thanks!!!

I started the sanitize procedure today; it takes me a while to get things done. I ordered a water hose adapter to male 1/2 inch adapter. Disconnected the 1/2 inch female off of the last filter and connected the water hose, after pouring 1 1/4 cups of Clorox into the hose. Then filled the tank to 70 gallons. After opening the faucets to get the chlorine mixture into them, pulled in the slides, hooked up, and pulled forward, braking a few times, and then reverse, braking a few times. Hopefully, that sloshed the mixture around in the tank. We’ll drain and flush tomorrow.

That's about the easiest way and almost how I do it.

I have a small marine strainer after the last filter with no screen or element in it. When I sanitize I add the sanitizer to that filter assembly.

I use Purogen.

I am on the way up to the garage to drain the tank and could use some directions on where the drain valve is located. I’ve looked in the belly down below the panel and haven’t seen it. Exactly, where is it, and what does the valve look like? Also, I have to log on EVERY TIME THAT I VISIT this site. I check the ‘keep me logged in’ box, but as soon as I change web sites and return, I have to log in again. How can I make the site keep me logged in?

Found three of them. Two blues and a red for water heater. One blue for tank and one for water lines. AND, I had to log in again.

it's right under the water heater in the belly insulation. It's a simple oval handle that is 1/4 turn like under your kitchen sink at home. Just reach around you will find it. STUPID location!!!

Had to log in again. The anode was eaten away and I will replace it; posting a picture.; most of the corrosion is knocked off. All of it looked like the tip. I would like to use vinegar in the water heater tank but am clueless on how to get the fluid in the tank. Can someone offer advice?

Just flush the tank out. I think cameo sells a device that attaches to the end of a garden hose.

Did you find the fresh tank drain valve?

clev
10-28-2021, 02:13 PM
Yes, cummins, I found 3; posted above your last post. I’ve seen the hose attachments, but that won’t help putting vinegar in the heater tank.

I thought you were saying you could see the lines extending below the belly but couldn't find the actual valve.

Not sure the vinegar will do any good unless you could fill the whole tank. Just flush out good and carry on.

Like Cummins said, ditch the vinegar idea. Just flush the tank good, maybe with a homemade wand, and be done with it. That’s SOP.

Well finally, all finished. I removed the water heater over flow and dumped in some cleaning vinegar. The next day, it took a few hours of flushing, scraping, and vacuuming the tank. Yes, I posted vacuuming. But it is clean. Replaced the anode, cleaned the heating element, and filled the system; no leaks. Today, we installed a water pressure gauge in the input cold water of the kitchen sink faucet. It will display pressure of the pump or the city water, whichever is being used. The water pump is putting out 45 psi.
