This is not RV related, but I hope I can get an answer anyway. Two of my porch lights, one on the end of the house and one on the front, are wired on 3-way switches. I want to replace the light on the end with a motion sensor light, but they must be in the on position. That would turn on the front light as well. Is there any way to separate the 3-way switch on the side, so as to use a single switch motion sensor light?

You have a question that has a thousand answers. First question, how did DRV wire the circuit. Primarily where did they locate the 12V power, at the Light end or one of the 3-way switches.

Either way I think your wanting the front light on a 3-way and the end on a standard ON-OFF or will both switches be ON-OFF. Here depending how DRV wired some extra wire may be required, will that be foot or 40 feet???
Nothing is impossible but is it easy??

Thank you Clay, but I think you misunderstood. The lights are at my home, not the DRV. And they are 120 volt, not 12.

I would start at the closest switch to your panel and pull out the wires to determine what wires go the the second switch and send the hot line directly to second switch where you want the motion light. Should be easy.

Thank you cummins, but I’ve decided not to get into it.

Clev I'm sorry I read your first sentence wrong. A standard home would easy as Cummins stated if you change your mind

No problem Clay. If I change my mind, I’ll get back in touch with you or cummins.

It's been a long time since I worked with three way switches, but I don't think it's going to be possible to separate the switches like you want to, but I can think of two ways you could accomplish what you want outside of trying to change the wiring:

1) Install the motion sensor light you want on the end and remove the bulb from the front fixture, install a dusk to dawn socket, and reinstall the bulb. Leave the power on, and your motion sensor light will function as you want, and the front bulb will only come on at dusk and go off at dawn.

2) Make no changes to the current fixtures and install a solar powered motion sensor light in the location you want to light up.

You can get both items at Home Depot, Lowe's, or Amazon. I hope this helps

Thank you, Dan, I'll keep it in mind. Instead of the motion sensor light, I've replaced the old light with a new, brass, coach light.
