Not traveling, missing the adventures, got oodles of extra time? Reminisce with me. Find a picture taken during your RV travels, post it with a little note. Anything will do. Places and down the road pictures. Wild life, sunsets, birds and animals or seasonal changes.

One day while parked at Rawlings, WY we were exploring the vastness of the Seminoe state park. We went up and down dirt roads looking for wild horses. Nearing the end of the day we found these beautiful healthy looking wild and free horses.

This flock regularly foraged in a grassy lot used for parking boat trailers, right across the road from our parking site at the American Legion post #137 RV Park.

When this picture was taken we were parked at Provo. We had delayed our trip from the north to the warmer weather in the south. We had stuck around waiting for the northern forest colors to change.

This picture was taken with my little Sony digital. We were making a day trip up through the Uinta National Forest. This picture looks more like a painting than a digital picture from my ever present Sony.

We parked at Rancho Verde RV Park, at Verde Canyon, AZ for a few weeks on our first stop from wintering in Yuma one year. From there we made numerous trips to all the attractions in the area. Of course, no one can see much of Sedona on a single day trip so we went there several times.

We took lots of pictures on our trips to Sedona. The Art Mall was very interesting. Here are just a few pictures of some of the displays we found there.

One of our pastime adventures while full timing was to visit country/rural yard sales. It’s a great place to meet the locals and find interesting things to buy. While riding up and down back streets in Rawlings, WY we spotted this dwelling with a sign above the front entrance. We thought for sure it was a local museum and stopped to visit. Well, it turned-out to be a private dwelling and the sign above the front entrance introduced the people that lived there.

I was born in a rural southern district in Maine. Our family lived in North Berwick. My mother did not want me to be born at home, so when due, she went to a maternity shelter at South Berwick. I’ve never lived there, other than being born there.

When visiting in my home town area we park at a family owned country CG at Berwick, ME. It’s just a stone throw to the North Berwick town line.

Roads in rural Maine seldom, if ever, change. So I still know all the back roads throughout the area. One day while taking a short-cut from our Berwick CG location, to the strip malls in Kittery, we passed this farm in South Berwick. I thought it was very unique and stopped for some pictures.

For those not too familiar with those in the DRV category, the wife and I have lived in our Mobile Suites since Spring of 2011. We retired June 30, 2014 and hit the road, although when we get to a place, we may stay there for months. 20 months in Colorado near the wife's sisters, then 17 months in SW Oregon while volunteering at a retreat and reunion center, and then 9 months in Southern Utah at Kanab, UT. Now, we are back in Oklahoma and have been here for 2 1/2 years near family.

In our travels, we have been mostly in the western states. I am a prolific "picture taker" and have over 48,000 photos on my Smugmug site. So, with that explained, let me add a picture to the mix.

Between Twin Falls, ID and Mountain Home, ID is the Malad Gorge State Park. I-84 runs right beside it. Many don't know it, but when traveling across I-84 there, one is directly over this waterfall. It is directly below the interstate bridges themselves and it drops into the Devil's Washbowl. One can see the bridges in the top of this picture.

Jo and I have been married 52 years, just this last Christmas Day. With us, early on in our planning we decided that we wanted to stay in place longer, which would give us more time to see more things in any given area. While we didn't do much in Colorado except see family and see lots of stuff in Colorado, one or two times we made trips to Idaho to see family there, which let me get lots of pictures in Idaho as well as Colorado.

Our 17 months in Oregon was spent as volunteer "ranch hosts" at a retreat and reunion center just north of Grants Pass, OR. The owners of the "ranch" also had a beach house in Waldport, OR, so we took some time off to stay in the beach house and explore more of Oregon's coastline.

We were camp hosts in a small RV park in Kanab, UT for that 9 months, and the job was one where we worked 3 days and had 6 days off, thus we got to explore a LOT of southern Utah and northern Arizona.

We have been blessed with good health and good opportunities to see a lot of natural beauty.

Pictures of me are rare since I do most of the photography in the family, but here is a photo taken by our boss when we were in Utah. This is a link to my "About Me" page at my website. That may be the only picture (recent anyway) of the wife and I together. The only other one that might be on Smugmug is in the Alaska folder when six of us in the family took an Alaskan cruise and land tour. I used the self timer then (year was 2005) to take pictures of the six of us as couples and groups.

While working in Wyoming this past Summer, we made it up by Devil's Tower, but we weren't able to do any real walking and photography of the tower because it was a weekend and crowded as all get out. So, later in the year, we took a week or a bit more to go to South Dakota and see Mount Rushmore and the Badlands. While there, we took a day-trip back over to Devil's Tower to try to get to see it better.

In walking the Tower Trail around the Tower, we came upon some "scopes" that were supposed to be usable to view a ladder on the tower. Back in the 1890's, two local ranchers built ladders to attach to the cracks in the tower to be able to climb it. While the lower 100 feet of that ladder has been removed, other portions of it are still visible, although not through the "scopes" that they have at that site of the trail. This picture shows part of that ladder in the lower center and was taken with a 28-300mm lens to get in closer to it.

Wife and I moved to Kanab, Utah in late 2017 to work as camp hosts at a small RV park there. Being in Kanab was great because the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Lake Powell, and Zion National Park were all with about a 75 mile radius from Kanab.

A friend on a forum where I participated mentioned one day that since we were going there, he really wanted to see some pictures by me of Bryce Canyon with snow. He had been to Bryce Canyon in the Summer, but he had heard it was beautiful with snow. We made 3 or 4 trips to Bryce, and this one below came about in late February of 2018.

Something from my home state of Oklahoma. This is found on the grounds of the 45th Infantry Division Museum in Oklahoma City. It is called a "Gama-Goat" and is a six-wheel drive, articulated vehicle that can also cross rivers. Slowly, but it can cross them. When I described this to a co-worker one day, he informed me that they used them in Vietnam to lay communication cable between "bases," including firebases.

He also said that when a unit convoyed to a new "base," the Gama-Goats were always the lead vehicles because they were the slowest. I guess they didn't want to see the other vehicles in the convoy run off and leave them behind.

One time while crossing KS from west to east on US-54, we took the US-254 Wichita bypass highway. Nearing Towanda we saw a large building with a lot of old cars and trucks in the parking area. We decided to turn around and go back for a look. It was quite a unique place with a 50s/60s lunch stand, a 2nd level thrift shop, three stall car/truck restoration area and a truck that had been parked so long in one place it had a large tree grow through its engine compartment.

Speaking of museums, if one is traveling through Amarillo, TX there is a small RV museum called Jack Sizemore RV Museum along I-27 in the south part of the city near SW 45th Avenue. Currently, it is "temporarily closed" due to Covid, but it is an interesting stop. Besides the old RV's, it also has some old motorcycles as well. The museum is in a back building at the Jack Sizemore Traveland RV dealership.

Thanks for the tour. I can remember seeing some of those RVs back in the day. My folks had a 1966 Fireball trailer. Much like the Kenskill.

We have traveled extensively in Texas and haven’t even “scratched the surface”. But, we have stayed at almost all of the military bases that have RV Parks/CGs.

These pictures were taken at the USAF campground and marina on Lake Amistad. We were on an adventure meandering down the west side of TX from El Paso to Brownsville. We were parked at the Laughlin AFB FAMCAMP, Del Rio, TX when the pictures were taken.

Lake Amistad is a beautiful clear water lake full of black bass and pan fish.

On one of our many side trips from Yuma, we drove out to Martinez Lake and took a Stern-wheeler boat ride on the Colorado River. It included lunch and some nice views of both sides of the river. We were a little surprised at all the dry campers on the federal lands on the CA side. There were a lot of fishing boats. Mostly out in the tall grassy areas fishing with wild shiners for the “big one”.

Soo Locks: During a two week stay at Mackinaw City at a RV resort - right on the banks of Lake Huron - we decided to take a day trip to Sault Ste. Marie, way up on the upper peninsular. We took I-75 which ends at the middle of the Saint Marys River. Our goal was to take a tour boat ride up through one of the Soo Locks which turned out to be the CDN lock. We came back through an American lock. From our boat ride we saw large RV Parks on both sides of the river.

In the pictures the yellow boat is CDN. The white one was American and the one we rode on. We weren’t picky; it just turned out that way.

We were there on a weekday and parking and ticket buying wasn’t a problem. The streets leading to the tour boat area are loaded with smallish shops and street side cafes, none were overly expensive. On the way back to Mackinaw City we found a Studebaker restaurant to have supper.

This is the home port for 1000 Islands tour boat rides on the St. Lawrence River. Parking during the week is easy and so is the shopping. The boat tours are moderately priced and snacks aboard the tour boats are not over priced. You can stop at the shopping pier at Boldt Island, get off your boat and walk around, do some shopping and catch the next boat to continue your tour.

It’s a wonderful adventure, especially so with a good guide.

We were parked at Dickinson, ND for a couple of weeks and went meandering around on US-2. Then we took ND-57 to the Spirit Lake Casino & Resort. It’s a nice ride across the lake on the causeway to the casino. The casino resort is modern with a FHU and paved RV Park.

NH only has 103 miles of shorefront on the Atlantic Ocean. Being raised just across the river in North Berwick, ME I had numerous family members that made their living working at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Located just across the river are the popular shopping malls at Kittery, ME.

Here are some pictures I took on a gloomy, dark cloudy day. They are just a glimpse along the waterfront.

After a couple months stay at Yuma, AZ we decided it was time to head east.

After making the agricultural stop just after leaving Yuma on I-8 and making the long haul up the mountains, we stopped at a trucker’s area to do a walk around. After a two month stop it pays to see how things are traveling. Sure enough, it was a good idea. A tire had picked-up a piece of wire in the sidewall and was leaking. Being high mileage full timers we take tire changing in stride. Next stop, we get a new spare tire.

This little city with its large beaches is a great place to visit. You can lounge on any of the beach areas with hardly anyone else there. Do some surf fishing and then go to town and have a meal at one of the many restaurants/cafes. You can’t miss it when traveling on CA highway 1, the beautiful costal highway.

Everyone in these pictures is related to me in some way, mostly cousins. I have 22 1st cousins from my mother’s side and almost all live in ME or NH. My oldest son is in the brown shirt and my uncle Ed (my mother’s youngest brother) has his back to us in a white shirt and hat. Ed is just a few years older than me and we grew-up like close brothers. It was Dunking Donuts Day.

During our full-time years, we traveled to up state NY three times, each time exploring something new. When this picture was taken, we were traveling east to west for the whole length of NY highway 37 along the St Lawrence River. The picture was taken from a very large and well-maintained pull-out area at the far eastern end of the 1000 islands.
