Thermostat and thermometer not even close

We set our Dometic 5 button thermostat at 74 degrees in zone 1 and 2 and left for a day of dollar distribution to boost the local economy. When my DW finally ran out of energy we came home and the thermometer we keep on the desk by the tv was reading 65.

I've done the thermostat reset thinking that would help but alas it still does the same thing. Anybody run into this?

Assume the temps were high to need to leave both ACs on? Basically, the thermostats for the ACs are poorly placed and may not be reading what the area temp actually is.
I don't think my ACs would ever get the interior down to 65 unless the outside temps were in the low 70s. This the first time you have this happen? Have you checked the thermometer for accuracy?
What year/model do you have?

I have a 2009 MS 36tksb4. This is not the first time for this. My zone 1 sender is under the cabinet in front of the rear window. I have packed insulationall around the sensor only leaving the bulb tip exposed. The window is dark tinted thermo pane glass. I installed a black mesh screen on the exterior to block thd sun. At the time of this occurance the thermometer read 65 degrees inside and 82 outside. Theromstat (inside cabinet by entrance door was set to 74 degrees. I havd checked the thermometer and it is 1 degree difference with the one i keep in the house. Getting ready to unplug the sensors to see if that changes anything.

Good luck to you on this. If comes down to it, I might adjust my thinking on what to set the thermostat on?
On the other hand, if you would reduce the time that DW contributes to local economy, maybe the Suites would not be so cold when you get home? :)

We have 3 AC’s. Zone 3 is the rear most AC and the sensor is mounted on the ceiling., center just in front of the rear cabinets. Zone 3 frequently reads 63-65 degrees.

I am at DRV now and the shop had an outside tech come in, check everything, changed the thermostat, said everything is ok and guess what.

Last night when I checked Z-3 was reading 63 degrees.

The temperature sensors for our DRV’s, do they look like the half-bulbous looking things mounted on the walls with slots in the face?

Thank you. Mine are mounted higher up on the wall. Would it be advantageous to lower them to be more of the living-zone height? Say like 4 feet off the ground? I’m thinking that would make the thermostat temp reading be more accurate.

My thought exactly. In fact, the installation instructions say to mount the sensor on an interior wall at (can't remember exactly) at about midway.

Doesn’t matter where you mount them if they are not close to being accurate.

Like I mentioned above, one of mine is mounted on the ceiling and it reads the lowest temps, 63-65.

My living room one is fairly accurate unless the sun is beating on the rear window. Its my bedroom one that's completely off. Replaced the sensor, thermostat, circuit board up top, took it to a DRV dealer and guess what? Still the same. We have to set it in the 40's and it will blow cold until you can't stand it anymore. I'm tempted to replace it with a old fashion one that vents at the unit with the controls are on the unit!!

@Oldbird - “circuit board up top” Could you describe where it’s located specifically?

Its on the door side under the ac cover and under a sheet metal covering, two sheet metal screws hold's it on. Its fairly big so you should see it. It has a row of little toggle switches and mine had to be set at zone 1. I bought it from PPL.

I have a 2008 DRV and have always had the same problem. I just increase the set point higher as the day goes by. Piss poor location of the bulb imho

Reducing the DW's contribution to the economy is the last thing I would do. In the first place the economy is very important and secondly you don't want to upset the DW. Better concentrate your efforts on the thermostat for your own health and well being.

When I think of DW's occasional perusing of Macy's, Kohl's and Dillard's and then think of my occasional perusing of Camping World, Bass Pro and Lander's Ford.....better I keep my mouth SHUT!

2 weeks post repair and I am back to shutting off zone 3 manually.
Set temp of 71 and it usually gets uncomfortable (asleep in the recliner) to the point of checking the tstat, 63 room temp and AC still running.

Occasionally have the same problem with zone 2 which is the bedroom.
