I have a 2019 39DBRS3. Tires are Goodyear G114 215/75R17.5. I brushed a curb and sliced the sidewall on one of the tires. Still holding air but Its a deep cut so i swapped it out for my spare, which thanks to the quality of DRV is a match right down to the rim. The only place I can find another one of these is in Tennessee near RV’s for less, and it’s $450 not including shipping plus I’ll have to get it mounted locally. Goodyear’s website doesn’t even list them.
So here’s my question. Should I bite the bullet and buy it to hang under my unit until it dry-rots or should I buy something cheaper as a spare and if so, what?
I don’t foresee wearing out the four on the ground within the next four years so the tire I buy will most likely never be put into regular service.
Thanks,
Phil

My thoughts is you had a spare and have used it to the best advantage you could.

Is the wheel bad? Anyway for a spare I would be looking for someone's used take off.

Never thought about buying a used tire. I guess that’s an option even though I have no idea how to track one down. Need something I’d feel comfortable with running a hundred miles or so in an emergency.
Thanks OCB.
Anybody else have a suggestion?

SimpleTire works for lots of folks, including me. But then you have to find a truck center that will mount the tire, and they just might ding up the alloy rim, so watch them carefully.

I’m not too worried about that since I gouged it pretty good. Simple Tire has one but they don’t show any installation centers anywhere near me. Search comes up with nothing.

Any Truck tire Center and a lot of everyday tire shops can handle it. Simply start making a few calls.

The only difference in SimpleTire's installation center--they MAY be open to installing tires they did not sell more so than some centers. As Cummins said, just call around, there will be someone that will mount the tire for $10-$15.

Thanks wingnut. Got the tire ordered and found a place nearby that sells performance rims and tires for car. He says he thinks he can dismount the old one and mount the new one. $20

GY ENDURANCE has been on the market for 2.5 years with a stellar record!

ssons,
9500lbs is way light for a 36' fiver--are you absolutely sure of that number?
Trailer King tires are commonly mentioned as having blowout problems.
GY Endurance should be a better tire, for sure. However, you should actually weigh the trailer and truck to see how much weight is on the tires.

And, welcome to the forum.

onereallyoldguy,
Sounds like a deal, but does the shop know he is dealing with a 17.5" tire? Usually a lot harder to break bead/remove a 17.5 then 16-20" regular tires.
Hope it works out--SimpleTire has great prices, good delivery times. I have used them for Sailun 17.5s for my previous '05 Suites.

The title has 9500 dry weight and 1720 hitch weigh and loaded max of 11,200.
Those trailer kings were less than 18 month old and had 2 blow out within 80 miles.
Weighing is I good idea
Thanks

Using 11200 as max weight, and 20% of that is pin weight (2240) on truck, leaves 8960 on the axles/tires. Divided by 4 gives 2240 avg wt on each tire. These numbers are just guesses until weighed. 2240/tire is not much, should have great experience with the Endurance tires over the Trailer King.

SSONS I was told a Goodyear Engineer the safety factor on overloading was greater on a GY trailer tire than the safety margin on over speed. On overload it was OK to run 85 PSI at the expense of faster wear. I had a FW that each axle was under the axle rating but the ODS was overloaded. At that time, I found a GY writing to support the 5psi increase on the E rated ST tires. Like wise the Engineer said SPEED KILLS ST tires. ST tires are 65mph Max.
Good Luck with your Future GY tires

Hey Phil

Just seeing this and see you ordered a tire.
FWIIW, I have had a G-114 blowout on our last trailer.
Seeing how it destroyed itself I would never trust them with a comprised sidewall or tread.

On the plus side after the blowout and subsequent claim to Goodyear, I received a check for 100 % of the damage including one wheel and 5 new tires.

The 5 tires were 5 years and a couple months by date code and about 4 years 9 months by purchase date.

That said, I am also planning to limit the tire life on our trailer, also a 2019 39 DBRS3 to 5 years.
