Getting ready to order 4 new tires 215/75R17.5. Goodyear G114's are very pricey. The Sailun S637 has good reviews. Are they a good choice? Also looking for a good travel route from Maine to Yellowstone at the end of April. Any suggestions?

Weston, I am a member of a number of forums and I can tell you, hands down, that Sailun is the preferred brand of experienced RV'ers across the board. I'm sure most would rather have the 114's if money were no object, but Sailuns top the list other than that. We swapped China-bombs for Sailun and ran them for three years until we sold the big Raptor.

GY is the only tire company that WILL cover damage if it is not caused by Road Hazard.

US Made and YES more money but they have a stellar record at all three levels "H", "G" and the newer "E" Endurance tires.

Have used the S637s for a trip to Alaska, and many more miles on my former '05 Suites, would not hesitate to get them again.
Had GY G114s on the '15 when bought, had tread separations on 2 of the 4 tires. Could not get the Sailuns, but did get Cooper RM 170s in the 6050lb rating.
Goodyears are good tires, but basically, you can buy 2+ sets of Sailuns/Coopers for the price of one GY set---if you listen to others on trailer damage due to throwing a tread, but want it covered, then get the GYs. If you want to get Sailuns/Coopers and buy a new set at 3 years, that is what I intend to do...
Lot of variables that go into tire wear/life--just keep reading on the various RV forums and make a decision the best fits your needs. NO tire is immune from damage/blowouts--just be sure you have plenty of overcapacity for your trailer weight.

I assume GY replaced your tires? I did have all 4 of mine replaced by GY as they did have tread separation at that era of tire. The replacements have been good since. That is the only GY issue I have ever had, not a single flat of blow out in well over 100k of using US Made GY's.

RV Damage with any other tire maker and it's a claim on your RV insurance. Aside from road hazard GY will pay all damages.

YES Sailun have a good reputation for sure but the option of US VS China I prefer the reasons mentioned to the uS GY Tires.

Ordered the Sailuns from Amazon today. I had found them cheaper but emailed the company and they replied that they could be up to four years old. Thanks for all of the good info.

Ron,
Did not give GY a chance, too far to go to an actual GY store. Had a set of $400+Michelin XTAs/Jrange--tread separations on 2 of 4; now have had a set a GY G-114s--tread separations on 2 of 4. Just have a bad taste on $400 tires...

I ran 17.5 Hankooks on my 2014 Voltage Toy hauler with great results. Person that bought it from me still has them on it. So 4 + years with no problems

I doubt that the Endurance tire has be available to have a “stellar” rating. Perhaps in a few more years when there are more stats on their performance.

I had a tread separation on Goodyear G114 on my an 8 month old Mobile Suites. I have the rig weighed regularly so I know it wasn't over weight. I manually checked the air that morning, and topped one off on the other side. I run tire monitors, so I know the pressure and temperature. The tire did not loose a pound of air. I just lost the tread. I discovered it at the rest area when I walked around for my safety check. Good Year declined my claim, so I sent it through insurance. I'm out the $430 they charged me to replace the tire, and my deductible. I will never buy a Goodyear tire again. I would take Goodyear off your list too.

I have had 10 Sailuns on our rig, some for 4 years. Love them and would never go back to the GY or M tires. Not quite the mileage as some other brands but I just am putting 4 new ones on the back of the Dually after close to 50,000 miles. They still have tread but why take a chance. I paid under $100 ea for them at Simple Tire. I often get discount coupons email spam from them. If you are interested and not in a hurry I can send them to you.

Fact is that not all Goodyear tires are made in the United states. They are made in the US, Chile and Germany.

One does not necessarily only need be concerned about the nationality of the tire.

Steve, could you explain this to us: "I sent it through insurance. I'm out the $430 they charged me to replace the tire, and my deductible."
You claimed tread separation on your tire on your insurance? Where does the $430 come in?

HUH?

They have been on the market for two full years. Do you know of any failures? I don't.

NOT calling you a liar. Did the tire get sent to GY to be looked at?

You are the first person I had heard of to be denied a claim on a GY "H" tire. They have had an issue with tread separation and loss. Very few blow unless they are ignored.

GY replaced ALL 4 of my tires 3 prorated and one completely free.

This is the last one replaced. You can see the second rib is higher than the outer.

Are the Rainers the same tire as the Sailuns

From thecampingadvisor.com:
"We are going to pass onto you some 7-year-old information that came directly from the horse’s mouth at one of the Jayco owners forum’s threads. The e-mail that came from the company rep states quite clearly that Tredit owns the rights to the mold and anyone with a Rainier tire at that time, got it from Tredit.

Tredit had the tire made by a company called Wanda which is in China. That information still seems to be correct as we checked the Tredit website and they still advertise the Rainier Tire.

To get the specs on the different Ranier tires before you buy, just click on this link. It will take you to the Tredit tire website and you have to scroll down a little bit to find those specs.

With that said, there are many former Rainier tire owners that do not believe in the speed rating system anymore. They say that the actual tire speed rating for Rainier tires is 0 because they can blow at any time for any reason."
No, Bob, they are not the same.

Are the Rainer tires the same as saliuns

The steel casings for all ST 16" LRG tires identical. The materials and compounds are nearly always unknown to the consumer. Mainly because they are confidential. The number and type of material in the casings is molded into the tire sidewall. However, dimensions are not described.

Here is a short list.
