While the Central Valley of California doesn’t get “freezing cold” it does get down below 32F. Do I could set my fivers Tstat at 40F? The furnace firing drew attention of the neighbors. Propane’s also expensive.

Questions: If I use an electric oil filled heater with a small fan behind it will that be adequate to keep fiver from freezing? Will I need a heater in the basement (storage) compartment)?

All tanks are empty. ALL lines blown out with compressed air and antifreeze in gray and black tanks. Drains have antifreeze.

What do you think?

Pterry, I'm kind of curious why it seems to be necessary to keep it above freezing in the RV...

I live in Sacramento and never worry about it. I drain all the water out just in case it gets down to the teens. Very rare but it has happened.

I did not winterize the pipes. Only did what I wrote. Just wanted the reassurance that it would be ok to due so because of our “mild” winters. I was hoping I wouldn’t have to do the full winterization thing.

I do look for condensation and air it out on good CA days.

In 40 years here I’ve seen snow on the valley floor maybe 4 times. Didn’t last but overnite at best. Hail only a couple of times.

I think I’ll leave it alone. I’m getting it ready to go at a moments notice. That bug has struck before.

Thanks All

Being retired, we close up the house and go to Yuma, AZ from December-April where it is warmer than CA.

The granddaughters live near Dover DE and I don’t do winter travel due to snow and ice. I prefer to escape the valleys summer heat. Seeing the GDs is compensation enough for the summer heat and humidity as we go east.

BTW, All of you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

If you're ever interested in joining an RV Club based out of Stockton, get in touch. When we're home and not taking long trips we go once a month to someplace within a 200 mile radius(max) of Stockton.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Why do you put antifreeze in the gray and black tanks? Just empty them like your fresh water tank. You only need to be concerned with the plumbing to include the HW heater. Make sure you turn the bypass valve and drain it.

Is this a new to you trailer? What did you do in the past?
