Dang! my browser crashed and now I have to re-type this all over again!

Anyhoo, I'm retiring in July (wife is already retired) and we're planning on becoming full-time RVers for a couple years at least. Plan to travel to East coast Canada, then down to Florida, back across to New Mexico, maybe the Baja, and back here for the required 6 months and away we will go again.

Have done a lot of research on this topic and we've settled on a truck / 5th wheel setup for our travels. Got the truck ('03 Ford F350 V10) already set up for a 5th wheel. Now we're narrowing down what 5th wheel we want.

Currently looking at 2 units of the same make and year. One is a "light" version, the other a standard. The light version is 31.5 ft and has a GVWR of 9995 Lbs with a ccc of 2500. The standard is 33.5 ft and 12300 GVWR (appx) with ccc of 3500.

I've calculated out the available ccc for our "stuff" after factoring in the holding tanks weight when full and what "stuff" we'll carry in the truck.

The light model will leave us with appx 1250 lbs for our stuff and the standard model will be appx 1900 lbs.

So, I'm a bit "on the fence" between the two of them coz I just don't know what "stuff" weighs.

Hoping folks here can shed some light on this for me.

What does your "stuff" weigh (clothes, bedding, dishes, pots 'n pans, cutlery, food, miscellaneous items, etc)

A bit undecided which way to go at this time...

Oh, I should mention .... these two units have some slightly different features and of course, this is affecting my being on the fence as well. For example, we like the 3 cushion sofa in the light model ( it's a 2 cushion in the standard) but the entertainment center in the standard model is nicer LOL

UPDATE

We've decided on the "standard" model.

Welcome to the forum.
What is the brand/model of what you decided on?
We are down in TX and currently beginning to work on the same decision to full-time.

We haven't bought it as yet but are going to the dealer Saturday to haggle. Regardless, it's the make/model we've decided on, just a matter of where/when we buy it.

As to your original question--I have had as much as 2100lbs of 'stuff' in my trailer for AK trips, but normally about 1500lbs. I need to get some Slimfast.....

I think I recognize you from one of the Gold Wing forums ... yes?

heh ... well I once had an '03 Wing and spent some time on GW forums where there is/was a member with your nickname although it might have been just "wingnut" without the 60.

me on the other hand... been riding for close to 50 years; however, I've just recently "retired" from M/C riding. Just can't handle those long hours in the saddle anymore, not to mention the mental drain from total concentration required to ride in today's traffic.

Well .... we did it!!! Took delivery of our 5th wheel RV today. (OR Roamer 337RLS) BUT ... it wasn't without incident! We'd arranged to store it at an RV storage lot in south Surrey. Unbenownst to us, it was a grassy field and as we started drivng in, we got stuck. Yep, all the frost was coming out of the ground and everything was wet and mushy and as soon as you drive onto it, into the mud you go! Well, we had to get a tow truck to pull us back out because after several attempts we just couldn't do it under our own steam and were digging ourselves deeper into the muck. In the process, the guys there had put a sheet of plywood under the wheels and as the tow truck driver was pulling us back, the plywood bowed and popped the power steering fluid line off and we lost all the fluid. Luckily it did not rip the line and the guys were able to put the line back on and top up the fluid. We finally got out THREE HOURS later!

So now truck and trailer are parked in our guest parking area in our M/H park and I've no idea where I'm gonna store it at this time ... but something will turn up.

That whole thing was a bit frustrating to say the least but at the same time, rather hilarious! I do hope it's not an indication of things to come LOL

BTW, that V10 pulls that trailer with no problem and the whole thing handles very easy.
