We are new to this, I have looked till I am Driving myself crazy. So many things out there and so many options. So I am looking to people that have already been doing this for a while and their experience. :?
We have a 3500 dodge pickup and looking for our new home.
The bedroom has to be tall enough for a 6'3" man
And this is a list of this we would like.
Large fridge with ice maker
dishwasher
has to have washer/dryer
kitchen counter space
bed has to have room to walk around
would love bath and half without bunkhouse
two entry doors
four entry steps
awning covers over slide outs
The is the list of things it must have
hydraulic auto leveling system
50 amp system
2 ac units
What is the best axils and H rated tires
We have looked at Excel, Redwood, Big Horn, Cedar Creek, Palomino Columbus, Front living, tri level, car haulers, bunk houses, etc.. etc. etc. My head is spinning, if I could take parts of all and make one and could afford that it great but I cannot.
So what I am asking from you experienced full timers any suggestions:
Please :?

My best advice is to find a large RV Show to attend. You can compare models and see which of those features work for you, speak to salesmen (sometimes from the factory) and you can see how other 'campers' react when they tour them.

If there aren't any shows nearby, find a dealer that has the different manufacturers units. Get a brochure, make notes, take photos and then you can compare in the peace and quiet of your own home.

If you had time and are able, it's also nice to take a few factory tours. They are most helpful. You'll usually find a few owners at the same time and can see what they are at the factory for. Major repairs or just a few tweaks.

If you have deep pockets either New Horizon or Spacecraft will build you a rig to your specs.

You will likely need a truck with a higher load rating however.

If those are out of your price range then as hitchup suggested go to a few RV shows and see as many examples as you can. You'll most likely find that you can get most of the options you want but have to order the unit to get as many of them as possible.

First time buys are a real trial. It generally takes a few years of living in one to determine what you really want in a rig vs what you think you might want before hand.

Thank you so much this is one of the many reasons I joined this group, I feel like I can ask questions and maybe get views from people living it not selling it. Also if there is something that seems to be major issues you all talk about it as to maybe how to fix or avoid.
Thank you very much for the input.

Excel has a model with bath and 1/2 that might fit all your needs.

I do think you all please keep any advise coming, I joined this forum because I figure the best place to learn is from your experience. I know there are different topics but I also know the people living in a fifth wheel may have a lot of suggestions on what really works and what doesn't. I am a sponge soaking up knowledge. Thank you all so much

My wife and I had three RV's 24 years before we retired, but we gat second 5th wheel when we retired which lasted 2 1/2 years, and we changed our minds and our third 5th wheel which we have had to 10 years now, I just mean no mater what you learn, you may not make a good choice the first time you retire. Several MFG. make fulltime 5h wheels and may make or build the way you want. Have fun.
