We will be taking delivery soon on a 2014 38TKSB3 Elite and will be towing with a new F-450.

The Reese 25K Elite hitch is sitting at a local dealer now.

It would be helpful to order our tool box now before taking delivery and then seeing how much clearance there is between the front cap and the top of the box. We are selling our house and don't have the time.

Full size boxes are 7" above the bed.

Will I have enough clearance or do I need a Low Profile box?

You really need all the clearance you can get.(IMHO)

There are lots of toolboxes made to fit even or below the bed rail--
here is one source to view:

I have the 60gal tank/toolbox in my '09 and had it in my '07 before that. Works very well.

As long as the box doesn't have rails on top you will be fine. My 2008 has a box about 7" above the rails, only time I had problems was making a 90 degree turn and the rails rubbed the front fiberglass.

If you want QUALITY check out ProTech or Highway Products. I have the H P it is bed height and 30" front to back. Diamond plate or polished are available. These people make products for the professional trucker.

Steve,

I guess we should also ask if you are going with a tool-box alone or whether you are also considering a combination tool-box and fuel tank?

I've not made a full decision as to what I will get, but if you are only looking at tool-boxes, we need to concentrate on what you are considering.

Don't forget to peruse craigslist for good deals....I found my toolbox/fuel tank there....for $100, and I left the tool box with him to sell again....all I wanted was the tank.

Highway Products are what I have. I was lucky to find mine on Craig's List for $300, new it would have cost just over $1,000. If I did not find mine used I still would have bought the same thing, worth every penny. Top quality.

I ordered a huge Weatherguard 19 CF 5th wheel box.

Is is very hard to install them into the bed or should I have a shop do it?
