Just ordered!!!

We have been working with Karen at RV's for Less for the past week, emailing and calling back and forth, and finally have reached an agreement. So...................we placed our order for a 2012 Select Suites 38TKSB3. We are getting some Mobile Suites upgrades on it and are getting to specify the paint colors for the swirls and such.

The order was sent to DRV yesterday so in 10 to 12 weeks (or however long it takes to build one), we will be Suites owners!!! :D :D :D :D Rather than paying for them to deliver, we will be heading to Knoxville to pick it up. We've never been to that area so it should be fun to both explore and learn about our new rig.

Hmmmmmmm........I hadn't thought about that. With the leaves turning, it will indeed be a gorgeous time!!

What changed your mind from the Montego Bay?

I think the biggest reason is that Debbie wants a bigger kitchen. She does not want to give up any of the big living room space we have now, hence us going with a 38TKSB3 instead of the cheaper 36TKSB3.

I can't complain too much. I get the 17.5 inch wheels and Michelin tires I've been thinking about for over a year. We definitely wanted a bit more quality than we have now. The Montego Bay has been a fine rig. Take away the slide motor problems in the first 3 years of ownership, and we've basically had nothing to go wrong on it. Hopefully the Select Suites will be even more dependable.

We are in a position to update, but won't be for many more years. So this one has to be a great rig. I know it will be. It will be the first one we've ordered. The others have been bought off the lot. It has been fun to be able to check what we want included and delete what we don't.

Well, we've had our 2005 since 2007 and it has held up very well. Biggest item was getting the 17.5 wheels/tires to handle the weight.
I think you will be very pleased with your unit--are you aware of Paul Cross and Indiana Interstate?--he has done PDIs for others, I have heard--and might be a good one to have contact with.

Paul and Kay Cross own Interstate RV in LaGrange, IN and Paul use to work for DRV. Paul does Pre Delivery Inspections and does a great job. To have Paul do your prep, you would have to talk to DRV and your dealer. Paul is located 8 miles south of DRV Factory.

PS - I just read your initial posting and RV's for Less is a great shop too. Either RV's for Less or Interstate RV would be great places to work with.

I continue to be impressed not only with RV's for Less, but also with DRV. Karen has worked tirelessly to answer my wife's questions not only from her own knowledge, but has been in touch with Kyle at DRV when she did not know the answer.

Today we did the final changes to our order and ended up saving another $650!! We had ordered the electric awning with the weather guard and air speed sensor for $1375. Come to find out today that the Select Suites come with the electric awning already and we were able to add the weather guard for $100. We won't have the wind speed sensor, but we've never had that anyways. So we saved another $1275. So Debbie and I ordered another couple of upgrades for $625. So the end result is that we got more on our rig and still come out cheaper. I like that!!

You saved money on something that doesn't work. The wind sensor tends to fail very very quickly. I use the electric awning all the time but never depend on the sensor to control it. I deactivated the sensor function years ago when it started retracting the awning just because the temperature went up over 90 degrees with no wind.

Good job Joe. You will save lots of money by having things installed at the factory. These are some of the things I ordered on my 38TKSB3 from the factory, added after delivery or will add soon.

o Awning for the door side slide. The factory waning covers the front of the rig and by adding the door side slide awning we doubled our outdoor living space.

o Four step unit vs the three. The four step unit really makes a difference.

o Slide toppers. Yes, they flap sometimes in the wind but they keep the leaves off the slide.

We have ordered the 4 step entry and the slide toppers. The wife didn't want the other awning so we did not get it.

We also ordered something I think is new this year. It is a frame/suspension thing called Straightliner. It was $200. According to the literature, it is supposed to help with tire wear and such. Anybody have it?

If you spend any time in hot sunny areas you will really begin to miss that second awning. There is a lot of radiant heat transmission through the windows and anything that keeps the sun off of the rig helps quite a bit with the AC.

Like Mike said. The Dining area awning is a must have. We use it all the time to keep the rig cooler and the added space under the awning is great. As the sun moves, you have space to go to stay in the shade.

I agree with Mike and Bill the second awning is a must I had one on my 06 and also on this junk 09.

The wind sensor is a joke like Mike said never trust it to protect your awning it will fail. Mine never worked from day one on this junk 09.

Straightliner to help with tire wear? Anybody know what this is all about?

I believe it is a new gadget to allow for aligning the axles without bending the actual axles themselves. In the regular method of mounting there is no way to adjust the mount to correct any misalignment of the axles other than by bending the tube itself if the mount is not placed exactly in the right spot on the frame.

Debbie talked to Kyle Miller at DRV today and found out that our Select Suites 38 TKSB3 has gone to be painted. It shouldn't be too much longer until we'll be official Suites owners!! :lol:

Let the fun times begin! You will love working with Butch and Karen, they will take care of you. You can stay on site for a night to check things out and then they will send you to Creekside in Pigeon Forge for a couple of days to enjoy your new rig. We absolutely love our unit. Yes I agree - the 2nd door side awning is a must.
