Ponch, I have the "water stick". It works very well except I am on a well here in Illinois during the summer and the water is extremely hard, so I have to recharge it about every two weeks. Mainly because of the laundry. It is very easy to recharge and only takes a few minutes not counting the 30 mimutes it has to set with fresh salt water.
I just got it in March and it has really cleaned the lines in the trailer, even clogged my kitchen facet with the junk it broke loose.

We use On The Go water softner. 5 years, no problems. Easy to recharge using a box of table salt.

After getting a really bad tank of water in Yuma in 2008, I purchased a reverse osmosis (RO) system. I use it to fill the water tank and then draw all or water through our tank. The water is extremely pure and consistent. You can see the difference in the ice cubes, the laundry and when you bath. I bought my system from K&P (Ken and Paula) Water Source. They are full timers, members of the Escapees and wonderful people to deal with. Their phone number is 206-369-7724.
