This is a 2005 F-350 Ford, diesel, drw, supercab, lariat interior, Arizona Beige color, leather captains chairs, and more.

There are only 58,300 miles on the truck and has been garaged when not in use. The oil/filter has been changed on average at 3,800 miles, transmission service twice and transfer case once in 55,000 miles. In short, it is well taken care of.

The condition is well above average and the dealer's offer for it as a trade-in reflects its condition. However, I am asking $26,900 to sell it outright.

Sounds like a well-cared for vehicle--hope you find someone wanting it.
Question for you: From the way you put your statement--wanting to sell it if possible for a lower offer than the trade-in--doesn't quite make sense to me. Did I get that wrong?
In my dealings with trades, I have always wanted to get more than the trade offer, as long as the extra tax on a no-trade sale didn't come out to more than what I made over the trade offer.
Just wondering...and maybe I'm too nosy.

No, you are not too nosy. Your thinking is the same as mine. Maybe I did not write my posts clearly.

I was asking $26,900, which is more than I was offered as a trade-in. $26,900 is in line with retail pricing for similar trucks.

Obviously, I hoped to get offer close to $26,900. That amount would lower the net I would pay straight out in comparison to the net with a trade-in.

With just a few days left, if I were to receive an offer for $25,250, for example, that would still be a bit better than the trade-in allowance.

But, in spite of several interested parties, I have not as yet sold it.

I must pickup the new truck next week. So, in a final attempt at attaining a lower net in the transaction, I would accept an offer less than the $26,900 as long as it improves the net outlay.

In short, with time so short, I would rather get a lower offer than none at all.

For what it is worth, if you pay cash for the vehicle you may be responsible for the taxes on the entire purchase amount. If you use your current truck as a trade you will only be responsible for the taxes on the price difference. Have you factored that into your reduced price on selling your current truck?

I agree with Cheif 2.

That's why we usually end up trading because it reduces the amount we pay on sales tax and can usually transfer tags at minimal cost at the same time.

The previous comments are correct. If you have a trade-in, you pay sales tax on the difference, or balance after figuring in the trade-in's value.

If you don't have a trade-in, you pay sales tax on the total price of the new vehicle rather than the difference.

So, to avoid a mistake, do the math ahead of the time with both options. I did this, so I am pretty clear on my bottom line for accepting an offer.

By the way, five Kenyan circus acrobats in California wanted to buy the truck with a sizable down payment. But, they wanted to pay the balance to me over time. I don't think I would do that, even with my 2nd cousin. And, I didn't make that up.

The truck has been traded in--I did get offers, but none as good as the dealer's trade in allowance..

After 1,100 miles of "no towing", it appears the new 2011 is a fine truck.

I drove from Wisconsin to Estes Park, CO in the 68-74 mph range and got about 16. 4 miles per gallon.

Is that 16.4 mpg with the trailer attached? I just ordered a 2011 F350 diesel. My 06 didn't get close to that. If it's with the trailer attached, I'm really excited.

I think that was solo for sure. I doubt he will get over 10 with an MS, but that would be a big improvement on my '09 450.

I brought home the 38RSSB3 using a 2011 F450.
Turned in a 9.1 with an average speed of 62mph.
Truck had about 1200 miles on it so I am hopeful to get more as it lossens up.

As I said in a previous post, I got 16.4 (non-towing/solo) mpg on a 1,100 trip from Wisconsin to Estes Park, CO. I certainly don't expect that towing the MS 5th wheel.

With the previous truck (2005 F-350 Diesel DRW) I have gotten as high as 10.3 mpg pulling a 2005 MS, but that was by keeping the speed down to 50-55 mph, as well as not encountering strong winds or mountain landscape.

On a 10,000 trip to Alaska, we drove a wide range of speeds, carried extra weight, and drove through varying landscapes. On that trip, we attained about 9.2 mpg.

With the new 2011, my guess is we might reach 12 mpg towing, which we be a twenty per cent increase. But, that is clearly a guess or, more accurately stated, it is a hope.

Well shucks, now I'm not so excited about the 2011. My 2006 gets 19.5 solo and 11.9 with the MS.

I believe your 06 has the 6.0 diesel without the DPF. The 11s have the 6.7 diesel with a DPF.

We have a 08 diesel with the DPF and average 8.6 mpg. That mpg is about 78% towing. The new 11s run about 3-4 mpg better than the 08s

Without the DPF your mpg will be considerably better.
