After 6 months stored my Trailair pin box air bag lost all of it's air pressure.
This is the 3rd time I have stored it for 6 months but the 1st time it has leaked out.
After pumping it back up it holds pressure just fine.
Is this a common problem for others???

I also checked the frame of it for cracks or bending. Nothing found. My hitch is a L08 and does not have the curled lip.

I have to put air into the pin and trail air axles each time I move the rig. The folks from Lippert said it was common.

Jack,

I'll have to agree with Steve and Kathy. Both of us have 2010 models, and while I haven't checked with a pressure guage, it does seem that if I don't have ours aired up before hooking up, I'll have to lower the landing jacks to take the pressure off of the pin box "balloon" while I air it up.

In fact, after sitting for six months, I would have been surprised if yours hadn't needed to be air up.

Mine don't loose air but don't mean it can't. I would recommend if it continues to apply nitrogen instead of air, since the molecules are larger in nitrogen compounds and won't leak out. That is the advantages for using it in your tires also.

Mine only leaks a few pounds over a 5-6 month period.

I air mine up if it's been siting a while. It is normal to lose a bit of pressure, especially when sitting idle for a lengthy period like 2 weeks or more. I rarely have to change pressure while in a trip on a day to day basis.

Using nitrogen won't stop loss of pressure but it will deflate your wallet.

After doing a little more research on using nitrogen for inflation, I decided to edit out my post.. But I do drive a new car that was delivered with nitro in the tires. and so far, after 10,000 miles, the nitro seems to work just fine.

FWIW!

What is the proper way to air up the hitch to the top of the arrows? With full weight on hitch, partial weight on the hitch or no weight on the hitch?

Ours has the built-in generator and washer & dryer, which makes it very heavy in front. I run 75 to 80 psi in airbag and run at bottom of arrow. That is where mine pulls the best and level.

Wingers,

When we did our walk-through back in May for pickup, the service tech told us to air up our pin box bag as much as possible. Then we were to hitch up the fifth wheel. After that, we were to lower that pressure down to the tops of the arrows.

We found out later, that the unit (pickup and fifth wheel) needs to be level before letting air out of the pin box bag. Our parking pad is not level and after the first time of hooking up, the coach didn't ride as well as it does when it is level before letting out air.

Thanks Terry, that is what I figured. I am doing it right after all.

I fill the bag after hitched up, level and all the jacks up. I then fill the bag to the level indicated by the arrow on the shock according to the instructions. I do not know nor do I care what the pressure is when not hitched.

As Motor 31 said get hook-up and then put the air in. I do the same thing on the Trailer Saver air ride 5th wheel hitch. The weather does the same thing in all air inflated systems, pressure will change. I will be checking the pressure in all tires this Friday preparing for our winter trip.
