I have a 07 Montana 5th wheel. I am considering getting a small generator, placing it in the bed of the truck, for those times when we need to take lunch en route, and use the microwave. Any ideas, anyone?

A honda 2000 or the equivalent Yamaha (2000 or 2400) will do the job. We use a single Honda 2000 for everything from the microwave on down. It won't handle the AC unit but everything else is fine and very economical on gas.

You will need to secure it for storage to keep it from walking away.

Thanks Mike,
I have a larger Honda, which I have wired into my home, but a small one would be great for the trailer.
Is yours hardwired, and in the generator box?

Hi,

Nope mine lives in a storage box in the tow vehicle until needed. It's rather infrequent as I don't dry camp much of the year. I didn't get the gen box option when we ordered the rig as it took too much space away from the basement. The gen box also would act as an echo chamber to funnel sound into the rig and make it hard for the generator to stay cool in operation. I just put it next to the rig and chain it to the rig when I use it. Keep in mind that the generator has it's own fuel tank and it would be hard to refuel it in that small box in the trailer.

If I had the larger 3000 I would consider having a combination storage / run box on the tow vehicle. Less "stuff" in the rig means keeping it lighter since it has a limited cargo carrying capacity (CCC).
