After 5 years we finally solved our bed poor support problem. In a long ago post someone suggested boards under the mattress. It works.
We put two 9" wide by 70" long 3/4" plywood strips under the mattress.
One is just below the hinge and one is just above the hinge. They provide a much better support under your back and butt.
We have only used that for one night but it was a great sleep.

Jack; have you still got all that heavy steel framing under there? I dragged all that hardware out of there the first year we had the rig and replaced it with thick ply with two hinges about 8 " apart with a separator strip in the middle that remains in place while either the head or the foot can be lifted as before. Also went with one of the Sleep Number air beds and haven't had a moments discomfort since.

You can fit some 2X2s(1.5" X 1.5") between the plywood and the frame supports to get extra mattress support in the middle. Just screw through the plywood into them so they don't slide around when you raise the bed.

We left the MS parked in Arizona and flew home for Christmas. Will enjoy the newly stiffen bed upon our return in Jan.

Two nights "on the boards" and ther wife says it is fine. I agree.

Merry Christmas

We also ditched the heavy metal frame that was killing our backs. Have been on plywood for 2 yrs now. Much better.
